The Japanese ‘Nintendo Direct’ broadcast has revealed [as reported by CVG] that the Wii U will launch in Japan at the starting price of ¥26,250 for the base mode, which is roughly just under R 3000.00. The Wii U will release on December 8th in Japan.

The Wii U will be available in Japan in a basic and a premium package, the latter costing ¥31,500 [around R 3500.00]. Initially it looks as though the console will launch in black with 32GB of flash memory on the premium model and 8GB flash memory for the basic model.

The package ships with a GamePad, two power adapters, and an HDMI cable. It will also come with a sort of loyalty program, Nintendo Network Plus, which will gain users 10% off digital purchases. The HD console has 2GB of RAM – 1GB for game memory and 1GB for system memory – and can play 25GB discs.

It has also been confirmed that Super Mario Bros. U will be a launch title.
