Undead Ed lost an arm.  Not his, but the tasty pre-pre-pre-dinner snack he was enjoying on his way to this interview.  He was distraught – he has become a little obsessive recently about his possessions lately – and was convinced the clan had stolen it.  We laughed it off as a typical over reaction.  Until they sent the attached photographic proof.  We just thought he was OCD when he kept saying OMCD and accusing them of taking his “precioouussssss”.

Today’s clan – OMCD – recently formed and it is already clear they have a fun-loving attitude to go with their competitive spirit.  They focus mainly on playing Modern Warfare 3 on Microsoft’s console and some of their number may have a thing for… chickens.  Yip.  Chickens.

We got two of the OMCD massive to answer Soldier Gorilla is in blue and FireFly ZA is in red.

Let’s start with… what on earth does OMCD stand for?

Hahahaha we get that all the time – OmCd stands for One More Chopper Down

You’re a new clan on the block – when did you form and what is the clan game of choice?

We are certainly new – we formed around 2 months ago around the beginning of April

The clan is really new.  It was formed by SoldierGorilla (read the story here).  Even though we are new, we seem to be making a name for ourselves out there for the way in which we handle ourselves, not only in local games but also in clan games.  Our choice of game is definitely MW3 – and some of our players *cough NECRO cough* wishes there were more chickens in the game

How many members are you currently?  Keen to give out their names, credit card details and ID numbers?
Alright, only Gamertags will do.

I try that trick with all new members, along with the monthly membership fee ? We are currently 15 with one more on the way.

Does the clan have an organisational structure?   Or is it a free-for-all?

We have 4 senior members who lead/manage 4 teams of 4….. One clan leader and a partridge in a pear tree…

We are very much into structure as we know that all it takes is one member raging and the whole clan can get a bad name.  As Soldier said, we have 4 senior members who manage 4 teams of 4.  We try not be dictators and are always looking at new ways of moving the clan forward

How often do you try to play together as a clan?

We are on most nights, we have team practice sessions twice a week…. We try to have them twice a week… not always possible ?

We really do try and play together as often as possible.  But with these guys, I get left with alot of stuff to do, so I spend most nights communicating with other clans organising clan games and writing articles on our website.

Have you participated in any tournaments yet?  Won any?  Planning to (… win and participate in tournaments that is)?

We have not played any tournaments as yet but it is something we have plans to do in the very near future

the first step in trying to take over the world

Do you consider yourselves a competitive clan, or one in it more for the “shit and giggles”?

We do consider ourselves to be competitive, we are getting into the local Clan Match swing of things – all a steep learning curve for all the members

however saying that, I think our clan is full of guys that get on well together and enjoy playing together.  Most nights you can join a lobby and find yourself in the middle of some random conversation about chickens (well cocks actually), monkeys and how much crap was talked on skype that day.

What other games entertain the OMCD massive?

Other than the MW3 base we enjoy a wide variety of other games;
Battlefield 3, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell,  Fallout 3, Far Cry, Crisis and the list goes on…  Our roots are in MW3 and we plan to continue through BO 2 and future COD games.

That is such a lie… we buy the above mentioned games but don’t play them because they are not MW3 🙂  Its funny how a game can be so damn addictive…..  saying that, I am SUPER excited for Halo 4 (just saying)

Are you guys actively recruiting for new players?  If so, how should a potential member contact you and how do you decide on who is right to join you?

We not recruiting at the moment  – we do however have a great website – www.omcd.co.za

As Soldier said, we are not actively recruiting at the moment, however we do encourage guys to play with us and get to know us as a clan if they are interested in joining.  We have 2 new recruits that started playing with us at every opportunity they got, that it got to the point that we all felt that OmCd would be a better clan if they were part of it…..  we recruit guys not on their K/D but on how well they get on with other members of the clan.

What are you hoping to achieve in the future as a clan?

We are wanting to make a lasting impression on the local gaming scene. We participate in Elite clan operations and our goal is levelling up the clan to level 50 soon.

For now we want OmCd to be on the tips of everyones lips.  We want to known for our style of game, and for the way in which we handle situations.  We want to be known as the clan with that chick FireFly that so damn good 🙂

I’ve noticed OMCD shares a healthy competitive/companionship with Team DMW.  Are there any opposing clan(s) you most respect/hate/want to be like?

We respect any clan that is out there supporting the extremely small SA gaming community. We have no time for clans who have huge attitudes and only trying to make a name for themselves by bringing others down.
We have established healthy companionships with DMW and Xtaz and are developing them on an on-going basis

The DMW guys are a good bunch of guys.  I actually used to belong to them, so it was a natural step to having a good relationship with them.  As Soldier said we have established healthy companionships with both DMW and recently Xtaz who are both helping us develop our game and improve our skills.

In regards to professional – or competitive gaming – what do you as a clan think needs to be done to raise the profile of South African gaming?

Players need to stop raging at things they have no control over – it’s a game – players need to understand that there will be better player than themselves.
More local matches are needed.

I think it would be great for clans to have clan get togethers and have guys like Megarom, Ozone, Apex Interactive and the likes actually supporting these gatherings and giving the clans assistance.  I think Ozone are doing a great job with their move to sponsor clans and I think this is already making a huge difference in gaming in South Africa.  I also think we as gamers need to be more tolerant of each other and play the game to have fun and not to rage and swear and make a noise.

Right, let’s have a little fun…

If you weren’t a gaming clan you’d be…

fly fisherman up the creek…

a talk show, focused on the most random of topics!!!!  We like to talk rubbish and rip each other off

War movie that best describes the clan

Tropic Thunder

Thats a definite… never go full retard

If you guys had a music soundtrack for going to war, what would it be?

Eros Ramasoti

Titanium – David Guetta (coz we bulletproof baby)

How do the guys enjoy being pwnd by a girl [this question may – or may not – have been influenced by a certain Firefly ZA…]?

Hahaha most guys don’t enjoy it and usually have something to say about it, as a clan we love it, she is one of the guys.

These guys hate that I am a better gamer than them… don’t let Soldier fool you.  He just practices the saying “keep your friends close and your enemies closer”…. no, I will admit that I am definitely one of the guys.  I love that OmCd do not treat me any differently to the way the treat the other members.  They have made it clear that I am no one special.  Saying that though, there have been times when OmCd guys have had my back when guys are not happy with being pwnd by me 🙂  I love you guys!!!

Thanks for your time – is there anything you would like to add before you head back out to do battle?

Your support of SA gaming and of local clans is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to write up some questions.  Your support of the local clans does not go unnoticed…. so much so that if there were a Zombie Apocalypse, and you were walking towards me, I would think twice before kicking you in the head [Oh that is too kind of you.  When the zombie apocalypse happens we will pay you the same courtesy… maybe.]

You can see more of OMCD on their official website, on their YouTube Channel, on Facebook or even follow them on Twitter.

If you are keen to feature in this column in the future, please feel free to contact us at info@zombiegamer.co.za and we’ll think about – after you’ve sent us a sample of your braaaaaaiiiiinnnnsss.

Remember to get involved.  By simply commenting on the clan profile, you stand a chance to win a case of Ozone Energy Drink.  Ozone South Africa are also looking for clans to sponsor and by participating here you already have made an impression and impact.
