Undead Ed chews the fat with… 32B [SA Gaming Clan]

It’s unlikely you will ever see a zombie horde operate with any of the efficiency of a military force.  It will probably be the only reason human resistance will hold out for more than a day.  We do however have our greatest minds working on understanding the (human) military structure to see what we can learn and modify it for our ultimate victory over you unwashed masses.  And by “greatest”, we mean Undead Ed.  Which means we’re pretty much doomed to fail.

And on the human side of the battle line you have the very military sounding ‘Three Two Battalion’.  Focusing their training on PC and in games that are generally considered virtual training manuals for the upcoming zombie apocalypse, we’re not fancying our chances too much again.  To get some inside information – and to assist our “greatest mind” – we asked Nicky aka ‘D00M’ about the up and coming clan.

Three Two Battalion started in 2009 on the back of Modern Warfare 2 – how many members were there at the start and were you started to play competitively rather than “socially”?

We were about 20+ members and we played competitively from the word go. We played in the SA Players league with 2 teams and ended at the top of both group logs.

After the release of Black Ops you lost a few members and had to start recruiting again.  What is the story behind that period of the clan’s history?

Hackers were creating havoc and most players stopped playing because of the lack of control.Core members stayed behind and slowly started recruiting and building the clan up to where it is today.

How many members are in the clan now?

18 active members

What are the current games played in the clan?  All of them competitively?

Modern Warfare 3 – Competitive online and LAN events
Call of Duty 4 – Competitive online and LAN events
Dota 2 – Team is ready for next online league
Starcraft 2 – Team is ready for next online league
Counter Strike – Preparing for next league

What is the clan’s organisational structure?

Owner: Savag3
Managers: D00M, Failure and Azrael
Organizer: Freaky
Team Leaders: Liquid (CoD 4, SC2 and Dota 2)  –  Failure (MW3)
Members: Attack, BeX, St1fler, CuRz3D, Paranoia, GiNjA, Foxconn, brick, BuRN & Puffy

You’ve played in a few tournaments and done quite well.  Any highlights?  What upcoming tournaments will 32B be participating in?

Our CoD 4 32B ( auRa)  We have played in many online competitions such as the CoD4 One Night cups hosted by the CoD4 community and usually made the quarterfinal stages. We have also recently taken part in the Survival series Cup where we were kicked out after round 2 losing to Bravado. Cape Town is our home and Organised Chaos is where it’s mainly 32B (auRa), Vtl and Bvd. Through the years since 2009 teams have come and gone but from 12-16 teams entering the competition the first 3 places were always one of the above. Best competitive Gaming seen other than Rage or FRAG LAN. We have also been to RAGE in 2010 where our team did quite well and made it to the quarterfinals losing to BFB laRd. We have been playing together for a long period of time now and have always had lots of talent and looking forward to RAGE at the end of the year.

MW2 we played in the SA player’s league and immediately made a name as a very competitive clan topping the logs in two divisions.

Black Ops we played in the NGL where we were in the top 3 of the premier league before most of our members left. It was a setback but how ever recruiting started immediately and the clan was in full force again.

Recently our MW3 team was promoted to Premier league in the DGL. One of the highlights was that we ended undefeated in the 1st division.  We then ended up in the finals of the DGL Champions Cup.

Our Counter Strike team won the competition at Organized Chaos in June 2012. The team is looking promising for the next league that they entering.

How often do you practice together as a team?

Every night we arrange and play friendly clannies (we have no lives haha)

Are you guys actively recruiting players?  How do you decide on who is right to join you?

We recruit if any spots become available, we also see where we can infiltrate in new games.
The player must be competitive, well-mannered and respect fellow players.

What are you hoping to achieve in the future as a clan?

Our end goal is to become a very active well known gaming community with a large footprint in South Africa’s Gaming scene.

In regards to professional – or competitive gaming – what do you as a clan think needs to be done to raise the profile of South African gaming?

Get rid of the hackers lol….. Ok on a serious note, we think all our league rules must comply with the rest of the world. Sponsors need to get more involved to assist the clans to make gaming in South Africa more attractive and affordable.

Which clan you respect …

SCaR, because they gave us a lot of recognition as an awesome clan in their online interview on YouTube.

Boring stuff over…

If you weren’t a gaming clan you’d be…

having a life.

When the inevitable zombie apocalypse happens, your clan finds itself trapped in an undefendable building with no escape route.  However, if you sacrifice a member to distract the undead, you can slip away… Do you, and who is the unlucky chap (or lass)?

In our clan we don’t sacrifice anyone, if one falls behind we will rush in and fight our way to save him! 32B is a family not a clan. We are BROTHERS TO THE END!

If you guys could all agree on it, what would the clan’s music soundtrack for going to war be?

Paint it Black – Rolling Stones
