This week on PSN – Your Personal Details | Editorial

Playstation Network consumers are up in arms this week with the network being down for days and then Sony’s monetary system being compromised by the security breach.

So consumers details have been compromised and some loosing money because of this. It was promptly assumed that the determined group of hackers – Anonymous – were behind the breach.

So who do you direct your anger towards, Sony or the hackers?

Firstly, PSN consumers’ pointing fingers at Sony is totally justified as they entered a relationship with the firm and so trusted their details would be safe. Sony were clearly not capable of doing so and if my banking details were leaked, I would be fuming with my thoughts to Sony being that I trusted them, I couldn’t care less who caused the breach but that Sony was keeping my details ‘safe’.

Secondly, if the hackers are to blame then one must ask what type of ‘heroes with a cause’ do you call yourselves if you are compromising innocent people with your war on Sony!  It is certainly easy to pin the blame on the group as they voiced out how they would attack Sony in a big way, so guilty by association.

Either way you look at it, this is a disaster with consumers being the overall victims. You have to wonder about leaving personal banking details with the service in the future – I know I will. When Sony manage to sort the Playstation Network out they are faced with the ardent  and difficult process of rebuilding consumer trust. Only time will tell just how much this will hurt the firm with current and future users.
