This coming weekend, Cape Town gets a taste of what Johannesburg has had for years – rAge hits the Mother City on 18 to 20 March. While there will be a fair number of vendors with wares to view and even buy, there has been a number of tournaments announced for the weekend that may prove interesting to your more competitive side.

The expo itself will be in the SunExhibits venue, while the NAG LAN will be in the Market Hall – both are in GrandWest in Goodwood.

Astro Gaming Cup Badge (Circle)Astro Gaming Cup

The Astro Gaming Cup is an invitational event featuring four Call of Duty console teams in celebration of the arrival of Astro Gaming headsets in South Africa. Up for grabs is R50,000 in prizes, and the tournament will run from Friday to Sunday on the expo floor (stand 5) with matches being streamed live.

The CS: GO component of the DGL Masters will be hosted at rAge this weekend. The tournament features the eight contracted teams of DGL playing for their share of R100,000 on the stage and via a live stream. The tournament will be at stand 62 of the expo.

The tournament schedule for this weekend’s action has been announced and sees Bravado Gaming kick things off against Veneration eSports at 10am on Friday. Carbon eSports takes on Flipsid3 Tactics to complete Friday’s matches while Saturday sees Damage Control play White Rabbit Gaming and Aperture Gaming face Xperts @ Total Chaos, as well as the first semi-final. On Sunday,the second semi-final and final will be played.

Telkom DGL announces Masters Series line-up

Following a rigorous seeding tournament, Telkom today announced the line-up for the first event in the Telkom DGL Masters series taking place at the rAge Expo 18-20 March 2016, Cape Town.

The purpose of the seeding tournament, which took place between 22 February and 6 March 2016, was to match up the teams for the knock-out stage of the DGL Masters, rAge Cape Town. As a result of this the line-up will be:

The eight teams representing each of the eight Masters Multi-Gaming Organisations (MGO’s) will be competing for the R100000 prize pool. The prize pool is broken down by placement:

  • First place – R40 000
  • Second place R20 000
  • Third place – R10 000
  • Fourth place – R10 000
  • Fifth to eighth place – R5000

This tournament is the first in a series leading up to the Masters main event taking place at rAge Expo, Johannesburg in October, with a prize pool of R1 million. The Masters programme will become the pinnacle of eSports in South Africa where the MGOs will compete for the largest prize pool in South African eSports history.
For 2016, the MGOs competing at Masters level are:

Xtreme Gaming

Cape Town’s Xtreme Gaming will be hosting a FIFA 16 tournament. Entry is free to all players (as long as they have at least a day pass) but entries per day will be limited to 64 players. The tournament will be held on the expo floor on stand 2 over the weekend.

To register for the tournamrnt, you need to:

NAG LAN

In the NAG LAN (being hosted in the Market Hall of GrandWest), you will find the BYO NAG LAN which along with the usual social angle will feature three tournaments. All the participants of the NAG LAN (including the tournaments) will need to pay the R550 entry per seat.
