The Spike VGAs have come and gone this past weekend, and it you missed it due to the fact you may have actually being playing games rather than watching TV or a live stream, we got the highlights here for you.
The Trailers and Reveals
First up. If you’ve been waiting for Naughty Dog to reveal when their next game will be hitting retail, the wait is over. The Last of Us will be out on 7 May in the US. Europe and the rest of the world to be confirmed.
New Tomb Raider footage got an airing at the VGAs, as did footage from The Phantom Pain – a slightly mysterious game from developers Moby Dick Studios. The trailer for The Phantom Pain is made entirely of “gameplay” footage, and features a character who appears to have been in a crash and had suffers memory loss after a long coma.
The first footage from Assassin’s Creed 3‘s ‘Tyranny of King George’ DLC got its première airing on Friday night.
An announcement that came slightly as a little bit of a surprise as Dark Souls 2. The game is going to be “more straightforward and more understandable” than its predecessor according to CVG. This more approachable game will see the series creator step aside and take on a supervisory role while a “pair of newcomers” at Namco will run the project.
Epic Games and People Can Fly took the opportunity to show off some more Gears of War: Judgment footage.
Not to be outdone by others, BioShock Infinite tried to shake away the boxart outcry and woo with the gameplay footage.
Castlevania: Lord of Shadow 2 and probably the most apt game of the night in some ways – South Park: The Stick of Truth – also got some new footage shown off.
343 Industries also used the VGAs to announce that there are new Halo 4 Spartan Ops missions in the works for next year. They are not part of ‘Season 2’, but simply a continuation of ‘Season 1’ on 21 January, which is taking a mid-season break in the current weekly release cycle.

The Winners
Telltale Games’ episodic zombie game The Walking Dead walked off with its fair share of the spoils including the coveted ‘Game of the Year’. The game’s developers also scored ‘Studio of the Year’ and a couple of other titles, ensuring zombies themselves were kinda like winners. Other multiple award winners on the night was Journey and Borderlands 2.
