Orena have announced that their Battle for the Throne tournaments for Dota 2 and CS: GO have been postponed until the weekend of 1 and 2 August.

MSSA SA Flag LogoMSSA

The MSSA has gone on the equivalent of a press release frenzy this past week (well, kinda), so we’ll give you the highlights.

The Dota 2 division of the Inter-school eSports League sees three schools battling for top honours at the moment with the two schools that finish top scheduled to face two US schools at a date to be confirmed. The schools currently battling for the top spot are: Fish Hoek High School, Maritzburg College and Parklands College.

Now that the hiatus between the third and fourth rounds of the MWEB Inter-school eSports League is over, the resumption of hostilities may now resume on Friday, 24 July 2015.

The DotA 2 division is hotly contested between three schools, being Fish Hoek High School (Cape Town), Maritzburg College ((Pietermaritzburg), and Parklands College (Table View).

And there is much to contest!

Not only may the winning school earn National Schools Federation Colours from the MSSA, but the two top schools will be paired off against the two top schools from the United States of America.

The clash against the USA will be the first of many, which will be part of the MSSA’s programme to further develop South African gamers to rightfully take their place among the top eSports nations.

However, before the two top school get there, the fight for first and second place has to be resolved.

All three schools are already on six points, all three schools have not yet lost a game, but that is all about to change…

The fourth round will see Fish Hoek square off against Maritzburg College, while Parklands College will have to field off a strong attack from Rondebosch Boys.

In Starcraft, the runaway leader is James Lu of Northcliff High School who has won three out of three matches so far.

Friday, 24 July 2015 sees the resumption of the MWEB Inter-school Online Championships.

Although there are seven titles being contested, the StarCraft title is of particular interest.

Northcliff High School learner, James Lu, is demolishing all of his opponents. So far, James has not lost a single game and is well in the lead.

The fourth round sees James drawn against Daniel Froneman (Midstream College) who is currently in second place.

It is up to Daniel to thwart James’ plans of winning all of his games and thus earn himself MSSA National Schools Colours.

However, considering that James is the current Gauteng Champion, Daniel will have an battle of epic proportions on his hands.

This will be a game to watch…
