While Activision has announced “better than expected” earnings for the start of the year, the publisher has raised concerns over the back half of the year.

In the official investors’ press release, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick acknowledged the publisher’s performance, citing StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm and World of Warcraft as strong contributors to the better than expected result.

Kotick did however raise concerns for the remainder of the year, citing shift in release dates of competing products, the disappointing
launch of the Wii U and uncertainties regarding next-generation hardware as factors contributing to the uncertainty.

“While we have had a solid start to the year, we now believe that the risks and uncertainties in the back half of 2013 are more challenging than our earlier view, especially in the holiday quarter,” claims Kotick.

“The shift in release dates of competing products, the disappointing launch of the Wii U, uncertainties regarding next-generation hardware, and subscriber declines in our World of Warcraft business all raise concerns, as do continued challenges in the global economy.”
