If you like your street fighting virtual – and you are in Cape Town – then you may very well want to ready yourself for the Cape Town Showdown. The event is sure to feature plenty of kicks, punches and fatalities and takes place at the Rygersdal Sports Club in Rondebosch on Saturday 28 January. If you are keen to…
Mweb’s association with ClanBase kicks off this weekend with a “fun” tournament to get PC Modern Warfare 3 players going. Console gamers, you have not been forgotten and there is a promise “to hold regular fun tournaments like this across a variety of game titles and platforms, including consoles.” To register, see the rules and peruse the prizes, head over…
MWEB’s Desmond Kurz had mentioned at the Cape Town Battlefield 3 launch around a month ago about plans the ISP had for making South Africa competitive in the international competitive gaming scene. He felt at the time that SA’s biggest issue is that tournament organisers are not able to focus all their time on the competitions due to other commitments…
This year’s rAge Expo in Johannesburg, South Africa is in full swing and that is where all the cool kids are this weekend… Clearly we’re not cool or kids as we are nowhere near the event. Our associates – I’m sure those who know us would never consider us “friends” – at nArotik Gaming have decided to head over to rAge to participate in the NAG LAN.
They have dispatched two teams and you can expect them to put up a stern fight in Call of Duty 4 and Starcraft 2.
XboxReel.com have given us a heads up about – XboxMasters – a four tournament event which they say caters for all skill levels.
The tourney is happening on Saturday, July 23 · 9:00am – 12:00pm at Unreal Internet Cafe, Pavilion, Durban.
R8500 worth of prizes are up for grabs, from Xbox hardware to Games and Xbox Live accounts. There will also be giveaways for spectators and participants.
How it works is, the first matches are played and the results determine which tournament level you will fall into.
The organizers say all are welcome – family, friends, your ugly cousins twice removed… everyone.
Titles and pricing below.
Xboxreel – supporters of the South African Xbox 360 competitive gaming scene – have announced that their second season of the Call of Duty: Black Ops Demolition trio tournament has opened for registration.
For Xbox clans or teams interested head over to their site and register. I can speak from previous experience when I say that even if you only survive the first round (hey, we tried, OK?) it’s worth the time spent.
This past weekend saw the Call of Duty: BlackOps one night cup championship organised by nArotiK Gaming played between eight top Call of Duty teams in SA. By all accounts, it proved to be a resounding success with Konsentrasie Knights (KK) taking the final against nArotiK Gaming’s own team.
Congratulations to all the teams that participated and to nArotiK Gaming for organising the event. Keep watching for news of future events.
nArotiK Gaming in partnership with ZombieGamer.co.za brings to the South African community of Call of Duty: BlackOps a one night cup championship. The cup will take place on Saturday 21 May 2011 at 18:00 pm and continue until approximately 22:00 pm. The format for this competition is single-elimination and it will be limited to only eight teams.
A little over a week ago, the chainsaws fell silent in the South African Gears Guardian League, leaving Jacinto strewn with bodies – both Locust and COG. In what can only be described as a perfect ending, two teams tied for the top spot having both won eight out of their nine games, but it came right down to the last round robin game of them all.
Ten teams started the journey to be crowned the Gears Guardian Champions of SA (trademark is pending, but unlikely) and the two left standing and needing to compete in a “final” are The Shotgun Clowns and Capital Punishment. However, due to some of the players needing to attend to a rather fantastic Modern Warfare 2 Tournament and rather less fantastic exams, the final will be happening at a later date, yet to be decided.
One of the great things about the SA Gears of War community is the attitude of the players. Everyone appears to be enjoying themselves, except when Holden has the sniper or Vandal remembers where the ‘B'(ash) button is (of course, laughter is what pulls one through) and I would like to congratulate and thank everyone for carrying this spirit into what many might perceive as ‘competitive’ gaming. In the end, it was an absolute pleasure to organise the League and I will (some say stupidly) organise another one. Or at the very least one when Gears of War 3 lands.

Just as I started writing this and thinking of what to add for the opening paragraph to this interview I realized something… We have a very active, yet very small Gears community in SA! Everyone knows everyone and to some certain extents (after this tourney, you can add more. Personally I’ve added about 10 new guys to my friends list just because of Gears) some of us know each other personally even though we have never seen each other!
One of the few that we all know is Ninjascreed (my Gatsby eating bruvva…). A fun loving young man that plays Gears for Gears and because it’s just plain fun…
