It is now unclear if Halo 5 will see release this year for the Xbox One.

The series could use a ‘pick-me-up’ with Halo: Spartan Assault failing to wow late last year. And from what we’ve heard from Microsoft, a 2014 release for Halo 5 was on track.

Microsoft senior PR manager for Halo, Rob Semsey, reaffirmed in January that the title remained on schedule, but now the Master Chief voice-actor is contradicting this.

Speaking with Gamezone [as cited by MCV], Steve Downes, who plays Master Chief in Halo 5 says a 2014 launch is unlikely.

“I think you may be ahead of yourself on Halo 5,” said Downes.

“I wouldn’t expect anything until 2015.

Dowes did however claim that we can look forward to an anniversary edition of Halo 2 this year.

We’d like to say we’ll contact Microsoft SA for some clarity, but we suspect they’re hard at work trying to convince the powers that be at Microsoft headquarters to get some Xbox One’s on a ship to South Africa, and we wouldn’t want to interrupt.

We will however scrounge around for more clarity.
