Ubisoft has set up a new film and television division in France, reports Variety [via GamesIndustryBiz]. Based in Paris, the studio will be headed by Jean-Julien Baronnet who will team up with other well know industry veterans. The French publishing giant has only confirmed the division’s existence but has not made any official announcements in English, nor yet revealed its first project.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot previously spoke of his vision of turning Ubisoft into a fully-fledged multimedia entertainment business, points out GamesIndustryBiz. Ubisoft previously set up Canadian studios who focused on animation, CGI and special effects. The special effects house, Hybride Technologies were noted for their work on films such as Spy Kids, Sin City and 300.
With titles like Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell in the libraries , Ubisoft could indeed profit handsomely from the Hollywood cash cow.
