This past weekend almost 60 FIFA players descended on Trenchtown in Cape Town for our FIFA 17 tournament.
The tournament saw players split onto their preferred platform for a double elimination leg which led to the top two per platform playing for final overall placings in a home and away knockout.
The battle on PlayStation 4 was a tough one that saw a number of familiar faces fall earlier than expected in the tournament. In the end it was an Energy eSports players and a 50/50 Esports player that secured seeds one and two respectively when Muhammad Zaid Patel beat Jevon Kannemeyer 2-1 in the final.
The Xbox One bracket proved equally intense with many of the traditionally strong players pushing their way into the top eight. However it was the old rivalry of Masoom Fakie and Hassan Sheikh that featured as the Xbox One final. The match went 3-1 in the favour of Masoom to set up the matches in the playoffs.
The first playoff semi-finals saw Muhammad Zaid Patel and Hassan Sheikh end all square at four goals each, but Zaid secured the win on the away goals. The second semi-final featured Masoom Fakie up against Jevon Kannemeyer which went the way of Masoom 8-3 but only after coming back from a 3-2 first leg deficit.
The final brought together the top placed players per platform with Muhammad Zaid Patel and Masoom Fakie. it was the latter that took both legs for an overall 4-0 win and the championship spot for the March FIFA 17 tournament.
The top four placings after the dust had settled:
