Sony today revealed ‘PlayStation Now’, its all-new games streaming service.
IGN report that Sony unveiled the streaming service at CES, where it was revealed that the service will allow “classic” PlayStation games to be played across current-gen PlayStation hardware, as well as directly on other non-gaming platforms.
The service utilizes the Gaikai backbone and means that you will be able to play previous-gen PlayStation 3 games on your PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, but to televisions, tablets, and smartphones.
2014 model Sony Bravia televisions will also support PlayStation Now.
Sony’s Andrew House did confirmed that the launch games will include The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, God of War: Ascension and Puppeteer.
Sony has confirmed that PlayStation Now will be a subscription-based service, however it’s unclear whether it will tie-in to existing subscriptions like PlayStation Plus or if it will support online multiplayer and Trophies. Players can also opt not to subscribe and rent games on a by-game basis.
IGN also note that a closed beta for the service could begin later this month, with full service rolling out to PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and other electronic devices later in the year.
