The SA Gaming News Wrap. Exactly what it says on the tin. News about South African gaming, wrapped up in a bow. OK. It doesn’t mention a bow in the headline, but we’re pretty sure you appreciate the sentiment.

Trenchtown Gaming Tournament

Trenchtown_01Chainsaws were the order of the day on Saturday 26 April when ten two-man teams hit Trenchtown for some Gears of War 3 ‘Wingman’ action. The event drew a number of actual Gears of War players, as well as a few surprises, including Call of Duty players from ViNCO Gaming who proved entertaining once they had got to grips with the gameplay.

The day had a jovial and social nature to it – whether that was due to the free entry or the fact that it was an older title is unclear, but combined with the SA Gamer Forum Meetup and the market, it was more relaxed than recent competitive events. That being said, there was still a fair amount of competition to be had. At least in the battle for second place.

With FLS in attendance, the winning team was almost a forgone conclusion, and when they proceeded to stroll to a 20-1-0-0 win in their first game, the nervous laughter and air of acceptance was tangible. However, the games in the loser’s bracket were proving entertaining and tight affairs, with some matches swinging back and forth until the very end.

The final was a match-up of two OAP teams, Fuck I Don’t Know and FLS and played over three maps. Unsurprisingly, FLS took top spot on all three maps, while the other teams were separated by the narrowest of margins. The OAP team made up of Spiros and BlakSun took  second spot, while third place was decided by a playoff match which saw the team of Fuck I Don’t Know beat the other OAP team to take third spot.

FLS scored R600 for their day out, while OAP grabbed R300 and R100 went to third place.

Our thanks to all the players and supporters that attended on the day. The support for the animal charity was overwhelming with around 30 items received for A.R.T. A thanks to Dylan Rosser for the assist on the day.

Photos from the event can be found here.

The next event at Trenchtown is scheduled for 31 May and will be a 2v2 Black Ops 2 event. It will be a celebration of the one year anniversary of the Trenchtown Gaming Tournament and will be a free entry event with cash prizes.
