Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium hosts the 2nd Annual BayFive eGames

The Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) Stadium will host the finals of the second annual BayFive eGames on Saturday, 04 June 2021.

This follows the success of the inaugural edition of the BayFive eGames, which coincided with the official launch of the NMB Stadium’s eSports Hub in May 2021. The annual tournament is part of the Gqeberha-based stadium’s positioning as a multipurpose facility and destination of choice for non-ball (football and rugby) mass events; thus, attracting new business opportunities.

“We are delighted to be hosting this event yet again. eSports is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and therefore forms a big part of our strategy. The global eSports audience is predicted to grow by 8.7% year on year to reach 532 million in 2022. Those are amazing numbers worth every investment that goes into becoming a part of this revolution,” says Phumulani Hlatshwayo, Head of Commercial at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

This year’s edition will see a total of 64 (up from last year’s 32) aspirant and avid gamers from Gqeberha and the surrounding areas converge at the NMB Stadium to compete for the top prize on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 divisions respectively. Two overall winners will be crowned champions of the 2022 BayFive eGames – and they, alongside the 1st and 2nd runners up will walk away with their share of a pool prize of twenty-thousand-rand (R20 000).

Registration for interested gamers is now open for all South African citizens residing in Gqeberha aged 12 years and above on: www.mzansifive.co.za.

The BayFive eGames will kick off at 12h00 on Saturday (04 June) and they will be preceded by a two (2) hour workshop attended by all participants from 10am. The workshop will be conducted by some of the country’s top international gamers, including FIFA phenomenon, Thabo “Young Savage” Moloi.

This year’s tournament will also be opened to spectators and gaming fans in accordance with the Covid19 restrictions on indoor gatherings.
