Mass Effect 3 Director, Casey Hudson has revealed to Digital Trends that the controversial ending was what BioWare were hoping for all along. More specifically, the studio didn’t want the game to be “forgettable” and so the studio opted for a “polarise reaction”.
“I didn’t want the game to be forgettable, and even right down to the sort of polarizing reaction that the ends have had with people–debating what the endings mean and what’s going to happen next, and what situation are the characters left in,” said Hudson.
“That to me is part of what’s exciting about this story. There has always been a little bit of mystery there and a little bit of interpretation, and it’s a story that people can talk about after the fact.”
Hudson explained how he is most proud of the fact that the studio told a story that will be remembered and people would “think about after they played it.”
“There’s so much throwaway entertainment out there. I didn’t just want to make something that was essentially the videogame version of a popcorn movie. I wanted to make something huge and exciting and the biggest thing possible that felt like a blockbuster and had that big action science fiction feel,” explained Hudson.
