Our new guest writer, Zach Scheepers, gives those who want the help, some help for Black Ops 2. No amount of good advice will help a zombie though. We’re on the receiving end of most of this in the game…
Call of Duty attends to attract a lot of attention during the December holidays with South African gamers. Mainly because it’s Christmas, and many are eager to see what this year’s instalment is like, or like me, my parents feel the need to reward me for my hard year of slaving away at the books.
As we settle into this period, many will want to get ahead, level up, separate themselves from the “sheep” by “prestiging” and reaching level 55, which everyone wants to get to the fastest. I have searched the interwebs and have taken some of my own experience and compiled a little guide on how to accomplish these set goals.
The first tip is to find which game type you enjoy and that you feel most comfortable in. For those who die less I would advise ‘Search and Destroy’, which gives you a lot of points for minimal kills without dying. For those who prefer to “rush” and don’t really care about deaths I would advise ‘Team Death Match’, which allows you to die as often as you like and try to build up Scorestreaks.
Scorestreaks are my second tip. In Black Ops 2 the Scorestreaks are a bit harder to get than previous titles. Through my current experience (I’m prestige 2 with a K/D of 1.32) the way to rack up these the fastest is by playing the objective. Black Ops 2 places emphasis on “objectives” and you are rewarded for obliging. (For those of you who don’t already know, Scorestreaks are rewards you get for achieving high kill streaks or points for playing the objective without dying. When you die, your Scorestreak resets). The best strategy by far is to play your low Scorestreaks. These include the UAV, Counter UAV, Care package, Guardian and Lightning Strike. If you cycle through these streaks you will be amazed to find that you are leading the game, while having less kills than those below you.
The third tip is completing your “Challenges.” These can range from weapon challenges, making your guns gold and getting an awesome playercard. As you unlock different guns in Black Ops 2 you are given points for using them with their different attachments, also giving you the chance to experiment and find out what weapon style suits you. You will also have the opportunity to prestige your weapon, which allows you to redo the challenges and lets you put your custom emblem on the gun.
The fourth “Rank up” tip is to take out enemy air support. This is not for everyone, but if you don’t mind strapping a tube to your back, this will give you quite a few points and benefit the team.
My final tip is to choose your weapons correctly. My suggestion for new players is to stick to the sub-machine gun classes. Most of the Black Ops 2 maps are close quarters in tight linear corridors, and it helps having an “automatic friend” at your side. The MSMC, Vector and Skorpion (if you can handle the recoil) are the obvious choices. For those who prefer other routes I can advise the DSR 50 and Ballista Sniper rifles, and my favourite the R870 shotgun. Strap these big guys on with a suitable secondary – KAP 40 or B23R – and you will be ready to own the Christmas newbies.
