Shortly after the review embargo broke on Aliens: Colonial Marines, with many critics slamming the game’s singleplayer campaign, news broke on an alleged former- Gearbox developer claiming that Gearbox had outsourced the campaign’s development to TimeGate Studios.
Sega later dismissed suggestions that Gearbox had outsourced the singleplayer component claiming that the game has been developed by Gearbox Software, whereas Timegate contributed to the single and multiplayer portions.
Speaking to IGN, Gearbox president Randy Pitchford has now also shed light on the suggestions. Pitchford acknoledged that TimeGate only contributed to “about 20 or 25 percent of the total time,” of the game’s development.
“Their effort’s probably equivalent to ours. Now, it’s not fair to take pre-production out of it, but that says a lot about how much horsepower those guys put into it.”
Pitchford also revealed that Nerve Software had contributed a number of multiplayer maps.
“These guys are hardcore,” he said
“They have talent.
“If I was going to lay all that carpet myself and build the stairs myself and do all the countertops myself, that house would never get done.”
