Hardware

Kotaku has timed the installation times of seven PS4 launch games and you can expect to start playing games within generally less than 45 seconds of the installation process starting. So gamers are the real winners in the mandatory installation requirement after all.

The lead architect for the PS4 – Mark Cerny – has suggested that not all game genres are ideal for the console’s Remote Play feature. This is due to some input lag. [More on CVG]

The PS4 will not support 3D Blu-rays “at launch”. Expect a post launch update to rectify this sometime in the future. [More on Eurogamer]

The PS4 firmware update (1.50) is now available in the US. The day one update is about 322mb in size and enables a number of system features including online multiplayer, Remote Play, gameplay sharing, ‘play as you download’, party chat, Blu-ray and DVD playback, second screen capabilities and more.

Sky’s Now TV app for the Xbox One will not be available until summer of 2014. [More on Eurogamer]

Games

A Call of Duty Ghosts update has been released across all platforms. The patch improves operations functionality, fixes UI bugs, addresses an issue with splitscreen players’ rank, and fixes a rare crash with specific private match settings. [More on the Call of Duty Forums]

A day one patch for the PS4 version of Call of Duty Ghosts will add 1080p support for the campaign. Otherwise, the game is locked at 720p. [More on Eurogamer]

A Battlefield 4 server update has been released. This is the fifth one since the game’s release and fixes a number of server-based issues, ahead of the release of a larger patch. [More on Battlelog]

The free ‘Beach Bum’ DLC for GTA Online will be available from next week. The update will feature “New Weapons, Vehicles, Jobs and More”. Details, along with screens can be found on Rockstar Newswire. Players can also expect “word on the forthcoming Content Creator, full on cooperative Heists, and GTA Online’s take on Capture the Flag – plus info on some exciting new Story Mode updates as well.”

A new Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes trailer, as well as an announcement, is expected during a Spike TV All Access show this Friday (14 November). The announcement is expected to relate to exclusive PlayStation content. [via Twitter]

Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley thinks that Planetside 2 will “be the massively multiplayer Halo for PlayStation 4”. Being free-to-play certainly won’t harm the chances o that happening. [More on IGN]
