GAME to close 85 UK stores

Whether this is a coincidence or a sign of the times (refer to this article earlier this week), but UK retailer GAME has announced for the second time this year that it will be closing stores due to further financial losses.

The company is planning to close 85 of its UK stores over the next three years, reducing the overall number of shops to 550.

While alarming at first, the closures are also designed to reduce the overlap between the company’s two brands (GAME and Gamestation) and “drive for greater cost efficiency”.  According to GAME’s chairman, Peter Lewis, 70 percent of customers from stores closed earlier in the year shifted to another GAME store.  The other 30 percent went to another game store – probably Gamestation then…
