It would be an easy assumption to make that games will only look better in the Playstation 4’s future. You need only compare some of the earlier Playstation 3 titles to more current ones to see how far developers have come with developing for the console.

The footage we’ve already seen with Playstation 4 titles show a pretty decisive jump in visual quality from current to next generation. With that said, some industry watchers have said in the past that the visual quality shift won’t be that vast to the next generation.

It is comforting to hear that Playstation 4 lead architect, Mark Cerny is confident that things will only get better as developers get familiar with the Playstation 4 and its capabilities.

Speaking to The Verge, Cerny explained that one of the goals with the Playstation 4 was “to make hardware that could grow over time as people really learned its feature set.”

“What I believe we’re going to see is that the launch titles will have fairly straightforward usage of the hardware — and they should look quite nice because it’s a very powerful console!” Cerny claimed.

“Then, over the next few years, as developers dig in and learn how to target the various hardware features with their games, I think we’re going to see dramatic improvements in terms of the visual quality of the titles and also the degree of interaction that players can have with those worlds.”
