Speaking with GamesIndustry, Insomicac boss Ted Price claimed that Fuse will offer something “very fresh” in “a sea of sequels.”
Price is seemingly unperturbed over the challenge of launching a new IP this late in the current generation of console, with the next generation’s launch around the corner.
“There’s no question that it’s a challenge. There are plenty of news items to take gamers’ focus off of this generation.
“For us, the opportunity was to be a new IP in a sea of sequels, offer something very fresh for players to check out when they’ve been playing, essentially, the same games for the last 5 or 6 years,” he said.
“What we wanted to do with co-op in particular was raise the bar and offer features that no other co-op games are offering at this point. Fuse was a great opportunity for us to do that.”
Price explained that with all of Insomniac’s franchises there was the element of not knowing how the franchise would do, and therefore a certain element of risk. This did not however caution the studio, as Price says that, “that’s both the exciting and scary part of being a new IP creator.”
Fuse started life as a Counterstrike game before Insomniac last year decided to re-brand the IP.
Fuse will be available for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 this coming May.
