This weekend there’s something for the older crowd, something for the politically minded and something for those who like to drop Yippee Ki-Yay into daily conversation. So grab your seat at your local cinema.
Quartet
A group of friends living in an old age home for retired musicians decide to take part in a concert marking Verdi’s birthday. But a cat is thrown among the pigeons when a character from the past arrives. The inimitable Maggie Smith features alongside Billy Connolly, Tom Courtenay, Pauline Collins and Michael Gambon, with Dustin Hoffman in the director’s chair.
A Good Day to Die Hard
John McClane is back for another adventure filled with high speed chases, plenty of explosions and impossible stunts. This time he’s in Russia paired up with his wayward son. And while father and son don’t always see eye to eye there’s a common enemy on their trail and a nuclear weapons heist to stop.
Zero Dark Thirty
If it’s a good does of patriotism and celebrating the victory of the great US of A against Al Qaeda’s leader Osama Bin Laden, then this is the flick for you. The story follows CIA operative Maya who does all she can to uncover the truth about where Bin Laden is hiding. It zooms in on her investigations right up until when the US Navy Seal team is deployed.
Zombie Terri’s Pick
I’ve watched the rest of the films, so Die Hard is definitely top of my list. I don’t expect to get terribly much out of it, except some thrilling entertainment – escapism at its best. And Bruce Willis is fun to watch. But first, I’ll be rewatching all the previous films with buddies this weekend. Yippee Ki-Yay Mother Russia indeed.
