Eidos and Deus Ex sites hacked

Edge is reporting that the Anonymous splinter group is thought to be behind the attacks on Eidos and Deus Ex websites, in which 80,000 registered users personal data was stolen.  It would appear anyone is now a target.

The websites for Deus Ex: Human Revolution and its publisher Eidos have been attacked, resulting in the loss of large amounts of personal data. According to security news and investigation site Krebs On Security, 9000 résumés were stolen along with the personal details of the website’s 80,000 registered users.

Krebs On Security reports that that both sites temporarily displayed a banner which read, “Owned by Chippy1337” before being taken offline for several hours. It has also posted chat logs from the alleged hackers, in which they discuss leaking the “src” – a possible reference to source code.

The hackers are thought to be a splinter group from Anonymous, the ‘hacktivist’ group accused of attacking Sony’s PSN service. The group is reportedly fracturing with members now targeting not just corporations, but each other.

An unamed observer told the site: “This is how those guys roll: One day they work together, the next they war. They drop dox [information] on each other like it’s a game. Its psychotic behavior like I have never seen.

“It’s like they hate each other but will work together on certain ops if it suits them, but then might turn on each other in the end… and then laugh it off.”
