world-of-warcraft

While Blizzard say it could be done, but that it would be “a big challenge.”

Blizzard lead systems designer Greg Street, told NowGamer in  a recent interview that World of Warcraft in its current format would be unfeasible on consoles, as “its massive hard drive footprint and its reliance on mouse and keyboard,” would be difficult to carry through to consoles.

World of Warcraft enjoys over 10 million subscribers on its PC format, and is currently the world’s most-subscribed MMORPG, holding the Guinness World Record for the most popular MMORPG by subscribers.

Street noted that with Diablo the developers need to make massive alterations to tailor the MMO for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, claiming that the developers had to change “some of the very fundamentals of the game to make it work differently.”

It came as a surprise that Diablo was to make its console debut, announced for both the Playstation 3 and the next-generation Playstation 4. It has been rumuored for awhile now, but with Blizzard not giving any concrete evidence that it could see a console release, the rumours faded.
