This coming weekend our sister organisation, ACGL, takes on GrandWest with AfrEsports. The event (which will feature zombies, obviously…) sees Call of Duty and FIFA hog the limelight with a total of R40,000 in cash prizes, while other titles will also be featured in a variety of shorter tournament formats. There is also a free entry option to the event for those keen to browse at vendors, spectate, participate in racing challenge and enjoy limited giveaways.

Call of Duty

PlayStation 4 competitive players will be able to battle for the R30,000 cash prize pool up for grabs in a two-day bring-your-own LAN event.

FIFA 18

Both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will feature across four qualifying heats per platform. Players finishing in the top spots will return Sunday and battle in a home and away knockout phase to determine their share of R10,000 cash.

Pre-registering and paying online secures your spot. Walk-ins will only be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis and up to the player cap per platform per qualifier (20 each).

MWEB Mini-Tournaments

Over the weekend, there will be R1,000 cash up for grabs per mini-tournament sponsored by MWEB. A variety of titles will be on offer at set times, with players keen to participate requiring a token received with their R50 Day Play Pass (available at the door), and to be at the registration desk at least 30 minutes before the start of their preferred tournament.

Racing Challenge

There’s a completely free-to-enter Racing Challenge sponsored by Apex Interactive and Silver Dollar Spur (in GrandWest). The fastest lap per session on Project CARS 2 will bag themselves a Spur voucher and Apex Interactive sponsored item. The overall winner will walk away with additional items on top of that. Please note that session winners will not be able to win multiple sessions. The sessions will run from 10h00 to 13h00 and 13h00 to close each day on the weekend.

Metal Gear Survive

The latest game in the Metal Gear franchise arrives this week, and you can try it at the event. Doing so might even bag you some swag. Find out more here.

General

We will have a few titles available for those keen just to try something out and in doing so you could win in one of the random giveaways. There will also be a host of vendors for you to peruse (you can do so without paying an entry fee). Recording for MWEB’s Glitched series will also be happening over the weekend with footage being broadcast when season two rolls around.

Cosplay is welcome at #AfrEsports. If you attend the event in cosplay, you will be entered into a special random draw giveaway. There is no official cosplay competition this time around.
