Undead Ed has sworn a vow of vengeance against the rest of us at Zombiegamer. Apparently humans marked “Ed’s” are his and his alone. No-one else is entitled to sample his “vintage” and “private” stock. We of course have no concept of privacy or the rights of the individual. So we sampled his wares. He has great taste to be honest. Of course, we only upset him and now we apparently have to “sleep with our one good eye open” because his “retribution will be swift and absolute”. Such big promises from a little zombie.
Today’s clan is the quite newly formed Vows of Vengeance – a nod to death metal’s Kataklysm (we approve) – who are led by founding members Maniac and Exile. Primarily a PC clan focused on first person shooters, they appear to have a strict code of fair play policy that also expects team members to respect each other and their opposition.
You guys have only recently formed – when did you form, who were the founder members and what is the clan’s game(s) of choice?
Vows of Vengeance was formed in 2012, founding members are Maniac (Christopher Smuts) and Exile (Armand Botha). Game choice is mainly FPS in Black Ops, MW3 and Medal of Honour. Although some of our members play other games in strategy like League of Legends (LoL)
How did the clan name get chosen?
Exile (Armand Botha) is into death metal and his favourite band is Kataklysm. The Album Heavens Venom has a song called Determined (Vows of Vengeance) on it. That meant something to him and even before we started Vows of Vengeance as an official clan he used the VoV tags when he played MW3. The leader Puriel from our old clan SaBRe use to flip out because of this and it was a good chuckle at times.
How many members are you standing at now? How is the clan structured to manage the members?
We currently have about 20 members now. The two founding members manages the members for Vows of Vengeance but we have also have our team Captains and Vice Captains that Manages the teams.
Have you participated in any tournaments yet? Have you won any?
VoV Elite is currently playing in the HGL for Black Ops and VoV Elite and VoV Delta have just recently entered into the DGL leg 2 for MW3.
How often do you play and practice together as a team/clan?
Most of our members get together almost every night to practice and play as a team or a clan but depending on some members that also have their social life and work times are also different.
Do you consider yourselves a “serious competitive clan” or one more in it for “the fun of it”?
We take our Clan serious in competitive but have a lot of work ahead of us as we are a new clan but we also inform our members that it is also just a game and the idea of it is to have fun and not get angry if they not playing well or doing bad.
Are you guys actively recruiting for new players? If so, how should a potential member contact you and how do you decide on who is right to join you?
We are always looking for new members to join VoV. If members are interested the most important rule is they have a 30 day trial period that they have to be online with us in TS or in our server. Abide to the rules on our Website. Respect our Members and any other clan members.
What are you hoping to achieve in the future as a clan?
I would like our clan to be well respected with other clans and obviously would like to at least get to the top 5 for the DGL in the fourth division as a start and then to build up to take on the next division.
In regards to professional – or competitive gaming – what do you as a clan think needs to be done to raise the profile of South African gaming?
- Well 1st of all we as a gaming community should start by reporting and getting rid of cheaters and hackers in our community.
- We should start a professional body so that all gamers can register and a proper track record of gamers should be kept. Only registered gamers must be allowed to play in big leagues like the DGL, NGL etc. These league games should all so be streamed live. (A small fee should be asked like R 500per year for a clan’s membership this will help with the admin costs etc.)
- We should also get the word out that gaming is not as bad as people make it out to be.
- A proper database of hackers including GUID’s, Ip’s , names etc. should made so that you can get players checked before they join our clan etc. (Like Vacbans, PBuster Bans etc.) and should only be made available to registered clans of the Professional body
If we can start getting the community to act more professional and do things more professional it will start changing on its own and this will give the gaming profile a boost.
Which clan you respect?
We respect all clans. VoV is here to promote and sustain good Sportsmanship and professionalism towards everyone. Every clan has their own way so why should we judge anyone.

If you guys had a music soundtrack for going to war, what would it be?

The zombie apocalypse has happened. You’re all toast unless you stick together. Half the clan wants to keep moving and the other half wants to barricade themselves in. How would you decide on the best course of action?
Well that is easy, we don’t run from fights and we don’t leave anyone behind. We will look for the best possible tactical advantage points and defend from there. Should we need to fall back we will have more than 1 defensive point set up and ready for use.
