There’s been plenty of announcements about the promise of clan sponsorships in the last few weeks. The problem is the time to start announcing the clans who have been successful has never been right due to a number of factors. Added to that, there’s been so much more interest in it that it’s taken longer than anticipated to read all the emails. But, the momentous occasion that was the monthly 2upGamers’ 5th Round event [our complete coverage soon] seemed as good a time as any to get the ball rolling. Or to fire the first shot. And Ozone South Africa were there to represent their product and to announce the first clan in their sponsorship roster…
High 5 are – to quote their very own words – “the oldest Xbox clan in SA” having formed in April of 2007. The clan was chosen due to a good social media and community footprint. They are also a competitive clan who play with a good attitude and spirit and have won their fair share of accolades (not sexiest clan…) on a number of titles. They have also decided to not focus solely on Xbox and have now begun playing on PlayStation 3. The clan’s leader Holden ZA is well known for his video montages, headshots and Clan Connection and is constantly supported by co-leader Dastrix 550 ZA who is famous for being older than all his clan mates age’s combined…
We attempted to get their comments, but Dastrix was too busy crying like a baby and calling it his “greatest achievement ever” while phoning his clan mates to tell them the news.
Our congratulations to High 5 – apparently the 400 page legal document will be on its way to you shortly.
We can also reveal that the next clan to be announced will be a PlayStation 3 clan which will then be followed by a PC clan. Unlike the surprise announcement at 2upGamers – they looked like rabbits caught in headlamps when their name was announced… bless ’em – the other two will be secretly notified shortly before the internet leaks the information. The announcements will happen over the coming weeks.
Finally, to help clarify – sponsorship will not be restricted to one clan or one clan per platform. New clans, events and gamers will be added to Ozone’s sponsorship roster regularly. All clans will start at Tier 4 and then work their way up. Or not. Only common sense will restrict the number of sponsored clans and we think Ozone has the braaaaaaiiiiiinnnnssss for that.
