It’s the holiday season, and quite unsurprisingly, the first half of the month is packed full of action, and then promptly quietens down. This is what is happening around the country in December (and the last two days of November) in your neck of the woods.
Weekend One (29 November to 1 December)
2upGamers kicks things off tonight (29 November) with their second anniversary event being held at The Cullinan in Cape Town from 7pm. R50 per person (or R80 for a couple) gets you into the celebration which features… stuff.
Organised Chaos proves they’re exactly that with their final event for the year at the Bellville Velodrome in Cape Town. Spectator tickets are R30 and LAN tickets are R150 and R200. There’s a Dota 2 and Call of Duty 4 tournament happening, both with cash prizes. The event starts today at 5pm and runs until 12pm on Sunday 1 December.
G-Force Challenge hits week three of their tournament. On Friday (29 November) the starting time is 5pm, and on Saturday the racing starts at 12:30pm. The event is at Century Karting in Canal Walk, Cape Town.
On Saturday (30 November), Games On Gaming Lounge in Rondebosch, hosts a Call of Duty double header. From 1pm you can choose to play in the Black Ops 2 or Ghosts free-for-all. Or you can play in both. R50 per title gets you playing and that bags you a NAG and cooldrink to boot. There’s a prize for the player finishing in first place.
A closed event kicks off the first full week of December. The zombies will be running a FIFA 14 tournament for 64 players at Fairmont High School in Cape Town’s northern suburbs. The event is the first of an expanding program that so far has the support and sponsorship of Tritton and MWEB Gamezone.
Weekend Two (6 December to 8 December)
There are plenty of LANs happening around the country this weekend. dAZLAN, A-Z LAN, Plaasteater LAN, Ground Zero LAN and the MSSA National Championships.
dAZLAN kicks off at 4pm on Friday 6 December and runs until 4pm on 7 December. The venue is at 290 Friederiche Street, Wierda park in Centurion, and tickets are priced between R100 and R150.
The A-Z LAN is scheduled to start at 5pm on Friday at the NG Church Wonderboom in Pretoria. R100 per entry.
The Plaasteater LAN starts at 7pm on Friday and runs until 12pm on Sunday 8 December. R150 to get involved.
Starting on Saturday is the Ground Zero LAN. R50 per person, and it runs for 12 hours from 9am at Tamboti Hall in Kibler Park.
The MSSA National Championships are on from 7 December to 8 December at Tswane University of Technology in Witbank. Full details are available here.
On Saturday 7 December, Fives Futbol in Century City will be hosting on of the biggest five-a-side football events in Africa. Or the world. A FIFA 14 tournament is also rumoured, but confirmation is still awaited. We will confirm once we know.

Weekend Three (13 December to 15 December)
It’s another Trenchtown Gaming Tournament, and this time, it’s Halo 4, FIFA 14 and Injustice: Gods Among Us getting a run. Details – and registrations – here.
Inzane Gaming is hosting a FIFA 14 tournament in Durban on 14 December. It is a 2v2 tournament and will be at the Musgrave Centre.

Weekend Four (20 December to 22 December)
Only the G-Force Challenge at Century Karting in Canal Walk on over this weekend it seems. And only on Saturday from 12:30pm.
Weekend Five (27 December to 29 December)
Inzane Gaming hosts its second FIFA 14 event of the month. This time Chatsworth Centre is the host of a 1v1 tournament.
Repeat events throughout November…
There are a few events which just keep on keeping on – sometimes weekly, sometimes daily. These are them.
Orena have two cups coming up. CS:GO tournament kicks off on 4 December, while Quake Live starts on 11 December. Registrations for both are still open, and the tournaments are sponsored by NAG magazine and SteelSeries. For event details and to register, click on each game’s link.
Cape Town Showdown play host to the virtual fighters in their equivalent of the fight club every Saturday from 11am. The beatdowns happen at GamerNET House on 45 Salisbury Street, Boston, CT. Details can be found here.
Legends in Bellville will be your home for 1v1 FIFA 14 action every Monday night. We’re pretty sure it will be taking a break for the holidays, but will confirm as soon as we know.
The Cape Town zombie will be hosting a casual gaming night every Wednesday night from 7:00pm at Trenchtown in Observatory, CT. 4 December will lean towards Call of Duty Ghosts, and shares the venue with the first of four Christmas markets happening. 11 December will be a FIFA 14 ‘winner-takes-all’ tournament.
