The two are related, but the double XP is not in celebration of the sales. The double XP weekend – happening from Friday – is to celebrate the release of ‘Annihilation’. While the latest DLC may only be available on Xbox Live, the double XP will be across all platforms.
In the related portion of news, Black Ops became the biggest selling game in the UK, breaking Modern Warfare 2’s record.
From Videogamer.com:
Treyarch has confirmed that a Double XP Weekend for Call of Duty Black Ops will take place from Friday, running through to Tuesday in celebration of Call of Duty: Black Ops – Annihilation’s release.
The event begins Friday at 10am PDT (6pm BST by our calculations) and ends the same time on Tuesday.
The latest Double XP Weekend is celebrating the launch of Annihilation – currently only available on Xbox 360 – but you’ll still be able to rack up XP at twice the usual pace on PS3, PC and the Wii too.
In case you’re wondering why the Double XP Weekend actually lasts into Tuesday, that’s because Treyarch is also using the event to celebrate Independence Day.
From Strategyinformer:
The Call of Duty gravy train keeps on a-rolling, as Call of Duty: Black Ops has become the best-selling game of all-time in the UK.
This news was confirmed by GfK ChartTrack, which reported that since the game was released in November last year, the title passed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to become the number one selling game. It’s cumulative UK sales through June 25 amount to 3,722,411 lifetime, beating Modern Warfare 2’s 3,702,410 mark.
Activision is unsurprisingly pleased, as Actvision’s UK rep Andrew Brown said, “This is an outstanding achievement for the development team at Treyarch and the amazing Call of Duty community.”
The Call of Duty: Black Ops “Annihilation” downloadable content was released yesterday on Xbox Live Marketplace, with PC and PlayStation 3 releases to follow.
