The fourth annual Canal Walk Gaming Expo has been announced. As with previous years, this Cape Town mall expo is powered by BT Games and promises plenty for attendees, all for the low price of… free.

A number of tournaments are on the agenda, including a ‘Football Tournament’ (*whispers* FIFA 19), an F1 Racing competition, and a cosplay competition, as well as giveaways, new releases, exclusive offers and exhibits.

The Canal Walk Gaming Expo starts on 23 October and runs until 28 October. Every day, the event is open from 9am until 9pm. You can keep in the loop with the event by hitting the Facebook event page.

Football Tournament Details
  • 64 entrant cap per eight qualifier stages
  • Qualifiers:
    • Wednesday and Thursday: 16h30 Check-in opens | 17h30 Matches start
    • Friday and Saturday: Matches start 10h00, 13h30 and 17h00. Entrants need to check in one hour beforehand.
    • Sunday: Grand finals from 11h00. Features top eight players from each previous qualifier

There will be qualifying rounds on Friday and Saturday, with the top racers returning on Sunday to compete in the finals.

Cape Town, 16 October 2018 – Get set to press play this October with the 4th annual Canal Walk Gaming Expo powered by BT Games.  With more competitions, giveaways, new releases, exclusive offers and exhibits than ever, this event is a gaming enthusiasts paradise, attracting visitors of all ages and families to enjoy all that the week has to offer.

At 7am on Friday 26th October, Centre Court will be the place to be as Gamers will be offered the chance to be the first to buy and play the brand new Red Dead Redemption 2 that launches worldwide.

The Football Tournament is also back and bigger than ever. This year, there are 512 spots (double the number from 2017) and a first place cash prize of R15 000.  Taking place over eight qualifying rounds in the lead up to the final on Sunday 28th October, the field will be level with all gamers playing the new FIFA 2019 game on PlayStation 4. Also new for 2018, is a major league Formula 1 racing competition. Similar qualifying rounds on Friday and Saturday, and the best of each will come back on the Sunday to compete in the final.  The winner will drive away with an official Red Bull F1 racing jacket and cap worth R6000.00. This is serious stuff, so fasten your seatbelts as pro Cape Town racers take on other competitors in a race to be fastest of all!

To keep youngsters fit and entertained, there will be a Just Dance competition, exclusive to Canal Walk Kids World members on Saturday, 27 October. If you are not a Kids World member, be sure to sign up on canalwalk.co.za.   Making a repeat appearance, Saturday will also play host to the colourful Cosplay contest – time to dress as your favourite gaming, Manga or Animé character.

Another new attraction this year, is a range of officially licensed gaming merchandise and gear – Loot as it is known in gaming circles.  T-shirts, hoodies, caps, dresses, ear rings, wallets, backpacks and more will be available to purchase to look the part and play it too.
