The two are related, but the double XP is not in celebration of the sales. The double XP weekend – happening from Friday – is to celebrate the release of ‘Annihilation’. While the latest DLC may only be available on Xbox Live, the double XP will be across all platforms.
In the related portion of news, Black Ops became the biggest selling game in the UK, breaking Modern Warfare 2’s record.
It wasn’t going to be a day that would pass by without a Gears of War 2 XP event, now was it? American Independence Day will see a 21x XP boost along with a few Horde tweaks.
Whether this will be a day only event or a week long event is not clear at present.
To celebrate the release of the new ‘From the Ashes’ DLC, Guerilla Games have organised a massive triple XP weekend. And it’s happening right now.
From today (and presumably running until next Monday), that old chestnut called Gears of War 2 will be showering you with 30x XP for playing during the week of E3.
The Xp bonus will be valid in Social, Ranked and Horde.

Starting today at 9am (PST) [4pm GMT] and running until 12am (PST) on Monday 30 May, you will earn double XP in Crysis 2 across all three platforms.
There will also be some prizes for the best XP earners on each platform.
As part of the celebration of the return of the PlayStation Network, Killzone 3 is offering you double xp for this weekend until Monday, May 23 at 10am [UK time].
Two (one can say slightly related bits of news) regarding the PlayStation 3, and for a change it’s two bits of good news – if you like shopping on the PlayStation Network Store and enjoy playing Call of Duty: Black Ops that is.
I’m sure it’s going to be tough to go back to Gears of War 2 from next week, but it will have to be done. There might not be a Sawn-off Shotgun, Digger or Retro Lancer, but there will be an XP event if you vote Gears of War 3 as your most anticipated game of the year.
Missed this press release somehow, but better late than never. This weekend you can earn double XP on all platforms for Call of Duty: Black Ops. It started at 6pm yesterday and will continue through to 4pm on Monday 7th March. Don’t forget that the First Strike Content pack for PS3 is out now too.
Today (4 March) from 4pm until 7pm (US Eastern Time), you can jump into Red Dead Redemption’s Free Roam and multiplayer modes to enjoy one of the ‘surprise’ two hour triple XP sessions. The event will be on both Xbox LIVE and PSN, with the developers participating on Xbox LIVE.
