Homefront | Server issues to be addressed

The Homefront Team has issued a statement which addresses their plans to resolve some issues with their first person shooter, with specific focus on the server demands.

In South Africa, a fair number of Xbox 360 players have had issues with connecting to games – although it does appear to be a global issue.  SA gamers have been further frustrated with their inability to retrieve the redeem code on a ZA account – something I doubt the upcoming patch will resolve, as that appears to be up to local distributor Ster Kinekor and Xbox South Africa to resolve.

Full details of the statement below.

Homefront 2 a very real possibility

Homefront is only due for release next week, but already Kaos boss David Votypka is talking about the chances of a sequel.

And why the heck not?  Homefront is the most pre-ordered game in THQ’s history and THQ also has already tapped in to their THQ Montreal studio to work on possible future games in the series alongside Kaos.

Saints Row 3 in Fall 2011

During their Q3 financial report (which we covered here) THQ president and CEO Brian Farrell announced that the next instalment in Volition’s Saints Row series is slated for release in Fall 2011 (Northern Hemisphere). No further details were revealed, and all he was willing to say was, “Hang in there. You’re going to love it.”

Homefront delayed

But don’t panic, it’s only by a week.

THQ announced the news during its Q3 financial report and fixed a new date for March 15, 2011 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

On the financial side of things (that’s what a financial report is usually about), THQ posted a $14.9 million loss for the three months ended December 31, 2010.

THQ further defend their view on used games

THQ executive, Brian Farrell has now said that THQ needs to monetise used games and is now calling on retailers to help. THQ, like many other publisher have launched a title [UFC 2010] where the purchasing of the title new came with an online activation code, thereafter a second hand buyer would have to purchase a nominal code to be able to take it online.

Farrel reportedly said THQ will help retailers to profit from DLC, but the relationship between publishers and stores needs to be more ‘give and take,’ explaining that the THQ work with all of their retailers and that they understand their business models. He explains that publishers are making “huge investments” in project developments, sometimes in licences and marketing, and they need to make sure that they “capture that value chain.”
