Julio ‘Beast’ Bianchi and Mosaad ‘Msdossary’ Aldossary qualify for the FIFAe World Cup in the West Asia playoffs

Julio ‘Beast’ Bianchi, a 23 year old competitive FIFA player from Cape Town, has made history as the first South African to ever qualify for the FIFAe World Cup set to take place in London in August 2021.

Bianchi, a competitive FIFA player for Goliath Gaming and captain of their FIFA squad, went up against some of the best FIFA players in the West Asia region in this past weekend’s qualifiers. After what global FIFA commentators deemed some of the most spectacular and entertaining FIFA they have ever witnessed, Bianchi made it through to the grand finals of the qualifiers where he went head to head with FIFA World Cup champion, Msdossary, and both players secured a spot to the FIFAe World Cup. Bianchi also won $20 000 in prize money for finishing in 2nd place.

People from across the world tuned in to the FIFA spectacle live on Twitch throughout the weekend where Bianchi played his heart out in a bid to make history. Social media was abuzz before and after the qualifiers with many from across South Africa and Africa throwing their weight behind Bianchi and expressing their excitement for the achievement and what it means for the FIFA and gaming community across the continent. Bianchi affirms that it was this support and belief that kept him going.

“It feels unreal to know that I’ve qualified to compete in the FIFAe World Cup – the biggest event on the FIFA calendar. It’s still sinking in! Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would make it because I’ve had a tough past few weeks with studying and writing 4th year exams which have been a big focus for me, and the qualifiers themselves were unreal – so much excitement and so many surprises in games from world class contenders! The support from my family and loved ones, my team, everyone on social media and in the game chat throughout the qualifiers motivated me beyond words and really made me feel invincible! That made a big difference. This achievement is for all of us. I’m going to go and give it my absolute best shot, and aim to make South Africa and Africa proud,” says Julio ‘Beast’ Bianchi.

The FIFAe World Cup is the climax of EA SPORTS’ FIFA 21 Global Series. The event will feature 32 of the best players from across the world battling it out for part of its $500,000 prize pool. Taking place from August 6th – 9th, the tournament will feature four groups of eight players each, as players face off to finish in the top four of their respective groups. Those who qualify will enter into a single-elimination knockout stage. Whilst the prize pool totals $500,000, the winner of the FIFAe World Cup 2021 can look forward to claiming $250,000 of the pool just for themselves. FIFA has confirmed that it will continue to monitor the global health situation leading up to the event.

Bianchi, who used to be a semi-pro footballer, competed in the FIFAe World Cup Global Series Playoffs in Amsterdam in 2018 where he impressively beat 2X world champion, August Agge Rosenmeier, and finished off in the top 64 in the world on PS4 in the tournament. In 2021, Bianchi made FIFA history again by being in the first team from South Africa to ever qualify and compete in the official FIFAe Club World Cup under Goliath Gaming. On South African soil, he has won many top local tournaments and ended the FIFA20 season as #3 on PS4 in South Africa and #155 in the world on PS4 in the official FIFA20 rankings. Bianchi is signed to one of South Africa’s top MGO’s, Goliath Gaming, and is the captain of their FIFA squad. He is currently ranked #2 in South Africa on the official FIFA21 Global Series Leaderboard. In April 2021, Bianchi qualified to represent South Africa as part of the South African national squad in the official FIFA eNations online qualifiers. Outside of competitive gaming, Bianchi is studying accounting at CPUT in Cape Town.
