Ubisoft | Q2 and Q3 Quick Look Highlights

Megarom highlighted some of Ubisoft’s upcoming big hitters. None got my attention as much as Call of Juarez: The Cartel and Driver San Fransisco. Since you need no introduction to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed, Ghost Recon and Brothers in Arms titles, i’ll jump straight to my favourites.

Driver: San Francisco

Developer: Ubisoft Reflections

Publisher: Ubisoft

Genre(s): Other Driving Games

Available on: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC and Nintendo Wii

Ubisoft pours on the nostalgia, bringing back the epic Driver franchise  that has sold 14 million copies worldwide. Driver: San Francisco will be a little different from what the mass of fans are used to, but is still focused on the ‘driving’ aspect the series is famous for.

You play as Detective John Tanner on a manhunt for crime lord Charles Jericho through the hills of the City by the Bay. While driving around you can ‘Shift’ between or take control of over 500 characters driving around and assume their missions. 200 miles of roads and over 100 licensed cars will be on offer making this the most complete Driver yet.

Ubisoft promise groundbreaking gameplay features, unique car handling and renewed playability which including multiplayer ‘mayhem’ modes.

Driver: San Francisco looks to revitalize the classic cinematic car chase that won the franchise a huge following and from what we’ve seen, it definitely looks to be on track to do so.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel

Developer: Techland

Publisher: Ubisoft

Genre(s): First person shooter

Rating: Mature

Available on: Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC

I am always excited for a new Call of Juarez game as they do the ‘western ‘ theme great justice. Bound in Blood was one of my all time favourites. But I was not prepared for just how beautifully hardcore The Cartel is looking. This title went straight to the top of my wish list after Megarom’s preview presentation which included some very violent, intense and exciting action.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel keeps the Wild West theme while taking bringing in the modern day setting. The Police force cannot handle the crime waves in the L.A region and so call on the badass ‘Cartel’ to clean up the lawless town.

Techland look to deliver an immersive and violent experience and so you can expect plenty of cinematic and an audio visual treat. The graphics, albeit early code look great and the visual effects were brilliantly done to create the tense, violent atmosphere.

A huge focus on the co-op element is also clear with some unique elements. In co-op you will need to listen to commands to prevail in the various mission modes. When playing alone you can take over members of The Cartel’s positions to strategically advance.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel is for a more mature audience – it’s grittier, more violent, features more bad language and seems to be darker than what we have seen in the series before. It’s also a whole lot more ‘badass.’
