SBK 2011 | Promising realism using EMotion FX Extended animation technology

MysticGD, the studio who are leaders in real-time character animation middleware were tasked with SBK 2011 animation. The studio used its latest EMotion FX Extended character animation solution. SBK 2011 is the first of a series of titles using EMotion FX, developed by Milestone Studios and published by Black Bean Games.

“We’ve been working with Milestone Studios since June last year using the new EMotion FX Extended.  The feedback from their Technical Artists and Engineering teams has been instrumental in further tuning the EMotion FX Extended art tools and console runtimes to the demands of these games” said John van der Burg, Development Director of MysticGD.  He went on to say “EMotion FX Extended significantly reduces animation production and required runtime engineering time, while at the same time bringing the in-game animation quality and realism to the next level.”

“EMotionFX Extended is the foundation Milestone is building on, for its next step in animation towards realism and quality of animation. EMStudio became the central tool for controlling the animations and their behaviour in the game. It’s ease of  use and practicality allowed us a wider range of rapid prototyping and enabled us to push the envelope even further than we were expecting.” said Eduardo Siminoni, Lead Animator at Milestone Studios.

The EMotion FX Software development kit comprises extensive exporters for the latest Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Maya versions,  EMotion Studio which is an extensive animation behaviour editor, blend tree editor, character and animation viewer, motion event editor, lip sync setup and testing tool for both artists and programmers and the EMFX runtime – a cross platform optimized runtime animation engine.
