September has every right to be a quiet one in SA gaming due to rAge happening in early October (4 October to 6 October, to be exact). However, September didn’t get the memo and is still packed with local gaming goodness.

Weekend One (6, 7 and 8 September)

Ground Zero LAN kicks things off from 9am on Saturday 7 September. R50 per person gets you into the monthly LAN event at Tamboti Hall in Kiblerpark. Call of Duty, Counter Strike, Left for Dead, Command and Conquer, Dota, HoN and more will feature at the twelve hour event. Details here.

MWEB will be concluding their Kalahari Super 8 Showdown on Sunday 8 September. Eight teams on PS3 and eight on Xbox 360 will fight to be the dominate team in Black Ops 2. You will be able to watch (some of) it all on Twitch and the MWEB event stream page. Details of the times for the various rounds can be found here.

On Sunday, 8 September, MainGaming hosts a FIFA 13 tournament which is also an ESWC qualifying event. The event starts at  10am, and R100 gets you in with a cash prize of R1000 up for grabs. Head to Fourways Mall if you fancy your chances. Details available here.

Sunday also sees the Dota 2 Protea Team take on Mexico in an MSSA Test Match. Or friendly. Either way, watch our team in green and gold (on Twitch we’re sure) take on their second international opponents following their match against Romania last month.

Weekend Two (13, 14 and 15 September)

Ucon_Final_01_BannerThe weekend appears to have only one event, but it’s a big one. The UCT Genshiken Society is hosting UCON. The event is being held at the Jameson Hall and Molly Blackburn Foyer at the UCT campus and will feature pretty much everything gaming, Anime and cosplay related. There are tournaments and competitions on offer, as well as plenty of stalls selling plenty of awesome items. The cost for all the fun is R30 for one day and R50 for both days for students, while non-students will pay R50 for one day or R75 for both days. You can visit the event page for more information.

2upGamers and the Zombies will be on hand to run a 2v2 Halo 4 and a 2v2 Black Ops 2 tournament on Xbox 360. Halo 4 is on Saturday and Black Ops 2 is on Sunday. Xtreme Gaming will be on hand with a FIFA tournament, while Cape Town Showdown will be your hosts for fighting games.

**UPDATE** FIFA Champs will be hosting their farewell to FIFA 13 on 14 September from 11am at Lounge Relax Play in Canal Walk. R50 gets you in and there is R1000 cash up for grabs.

Trenchtown 21 September_03_BannerOn Saturday 21 September, the 2upGamers eSports crew have you covered at the Trenchtown Gaming Tournament. The day’s gaming will focus on a ‘Final Farewell’ to FIFA 13 which will include cash prizes and a copy of the next game in the franchise. There will be no less than four fighting games on hand in the shape of Injustice: Gods Among Us, Street Fighter IV, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The you-against-everyone-else theme continues with a Forza 4 free-to-enter tournament.

dAZLAN will be back in Centurion on 20 September. The LAN kicks off at 4pm at 290 Friederiche Str, Wierda park and will feature COD4 MW (5v5), DoTa (5v5), CSS (5v5) and DC++. **UPDATE** CANCELLED GAP LAN operates their third event in the Stellenbosch/Paarl/Somerset West/Wellington/Grabouw region from 20 September (5pm) until 22 September (11am). The LAN event will feature Dota 2 and Modern Warfare 3 and cost you R100 per person, with seats limited to 50. The LAN is at the Pniel Clubhouse at the Pniel Sports Grounds in Stellenbosch. Details on the event page.

Over both the Saturday and Sunday, the H.I.V.E. in Monte Casino will be running a League of Legends tournament. The 3v3 event will cost R100 per player (includes a pizza) or R80 (no pizza). Prizes and the ruleset are still to be revealed, but registrations can be done here.

The MSSA is due to run a schools eSports tournament on Saturday 21 September, but details are a little thin on the ground.

Weekend Four (27, 28 and 29 September)

Currently the Free State Provincial Championships are scheduled for 28 and 29 September. MSSA is still to confirm.

  • FIFAChamps is due to host their last FIFA 13 event this month. At the time of going live, the event had no date.
  • There is unlikely to be a 2upGamers Community event this month due to a busy schedule of events.
  • Rumours abound of a FIFA 14 launch party. Details once confirmation is received.

Repeat events throughout September…

There are a few events which just keep on keeping on – sometimes weekly, sometimes daily. These are them.

StarCraft 2 MWeb LadderThe Mweb Gamezone Ladders have announced a StarCraft II 1v1 tournament. Registrations are free and close on 29 September. With R28,000 in prizes up for grabs, you really have no reason to take part. The ladders start on 30 September and run until 27 October, with the Super 8 knockouts on 2 November.

Cape Town Showdown play host to the virtual fighters in their equivalent of the fight club every Saturday (except the 14th and 21st) from 11am. The beatdowns happen at GamerNET House on 45 Salisbury Street, Boston, CT. Details can be found here.

Legends in Bellville will be your home for 2v2 FIFA 13 action every Monday night. The final FIFA 13 season is already underway and prizes include copies of FIFA 14.

The zombies (or at least the one in Cape Town) will be hosting a casual gaming night every Wednesday night (except the first Wednesday of the month) from 6:30pm at Trenchtown in Observatory, CT. The last Wednesday of the month (25 September) will be a FIFA 13 Tournament (the very last one ever… maybe) while other nights will feature some Black Ops 2 and Injustice along with others which will be announced here, there and on our social media.

Please note, if we have missed an upcoming event, it might be because we didn’t know about it. As much as we pretend to be know-it-alls, we’re not actually, and need your help in keeping up to date with all the happenings around this place we all call home. You can also keep up with everything happening by visiting our Calendar [Please note we are having a few issues updating the calendar at the moment. We are working on rectifying that. – Undead ed]. We will update both the calendar and this article if new events are announced for the month.
