Orena, who have carved out a respected niche for themselves in hosting online tournaments, have relaunched their website – or Orena 2.0 as they affectionately call it. Not content with just online activities, Orena have also announced their first LAN-based event, The Life Child Invitational, which will feature Dota 2, CS: GO, FIFA and… us!

Yes, alongside the two PC tournaments will be a console based FIFA tournament which we will be administrating and sticking our noses in throughout the three day event.

The Life Child Invitational is scheduled for 20 to 22 November and counts SteelSeries and NAG among its sponsors, while Grant Hinds will MC the action on Saturday the 22nd. Up for grabs in the FIFA tournament will be R5,000, while prizes for the Dota 2 and CS: GO will be funded by SteelSeries and the sale of limited edition t-shirts.

lifechild-fifa151While the entire event is over three days, it is important to note that the FIFA tournament will only be played on 21 and 22 November and will feature a group stage followed by knockouts. There is a 64 player cap for the FIFA tournament (with 16 spots being held aside for Life Child competitors) and registrations will be kicked off soon. Entrance fee will be R50.

For the two PC tournaments, teams will need to qualify via one of two online tournaments hosted by Orena over a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday evening.

It is important to note that along with the spectator spectacle and general competitive nature of this event that “half of all profits earned from ticket sales being given to Life Child,” so it’s for a great cause too.

Press Release:

The new and improved home of Orena!

Over the following year, our goal is simple—to push South African e-Sports closer towards becoming a popular spectator sport. We have the numbers yearning to take part, now it is all about giving them the motivation. We want to see local auditoriums filled with spectators who are solely interested in witnessing the best the country has to offer competing in Orena!

Our home (www.orena.co.za) has gone under a major redesign. We have recreated our website for the sole purpose of providing a far more exciting and competitive gaming experience. We will be supplying the ideal platform for local e-Sports to grow into a respected, marketable and profitable profession. Over the next few months we will roll out a list of key features that we will be supplying to the gamers and supporters of the Orena to maximise the potential of the local gaming market.

Our event schedule for the end of this year and running into 2015 includes an array of online tournaments together with South Africa’s 1st spectator-based competitive LAN event taking place in late November at the Life Church Centre in Sea Point, Cape Town.

The Life Child invitational, hosted by Orena in partnership with SteelSeries will be taking place on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of November! SteelSeries has once again made a massive statement with regards to their passion for the growth of South African e-Sports. They have put together an array of products including a limited edition T-Shirt which will go on sale for the sole purpose of supplying a massive cash prize pool to the winners of the CS: GO and DOTA2 tournaments at the Life Child Invitational.

Comment from Alan Spohr, South African Representative at SteelSeries:  “We have supported Orena before in the past year and It’s clear to see that the general focus from the team is strong on building eSport within South Africa, a principle that fits well in line with the SteelSeries culture. South Africa’s gaming community is growing at a massive rate with eSports ready to explode. SteelSeries are excited to be part of this gaming evolution and happy to put their support behind Orena. This said, the principle we have worked on with Orena, allows for the whole community to get involved, with the Prize pool fully dependent on their support. We wish all those competing the best of luck and may the best team win.”

Alongside the PC tournament, we will be featuring a 64 player FIFA tournament sponsored by NAG Magazine and ZombieGamer!

NAG Magazine has come on board once again to show their undying support for the Orena and the growth of the local gaming community! They have offered us an awesome R5000 to giveaway to the winner of the Life Child FIFA Championship!

Comment from Lauren Das Nevez, Managing Editor at NAG: “Having been involved in sponsoring various Orena PC tournaments over the course of the past year, we decided that console gamers needed some love too. Our decision to get involved in the FIFA tournament falls in line with our goal of helping to grow new competitive gaming communities locally.”

The team at ZombieGamer will be there on the day to admin the tournament. With their extensive knowledge of the console community and their experience in hosting console events, you can expect an intense and exciting few days of FIFA. The Zombies have also offered us 8 awesome XBOX 360 consoles for the gamers to compete on. The tournament will run over a 2 day period with the Grand Finals taking place on the main stage!

Comment from Clint O’Shea, the Head Zombie: “We’re really happy to be involved in an event that highlights the various genres and platforms that exist in eSports – both locally and internationally. Hopefully the FIFA players really show off their skills over the two days.”

Our MC for the main event on Saturday the 22nd of November will be none other than “Grant Hinds” South Africa’s number one Gaming and Tech personality! He’ll be entertaining you for the duration of the Grand Final event for CS:GO, DOTA2 and FIFA!

Comment from Grant Hinds, South African Gaming and Tech Personality: “I am excited to see Orena grow and this year it looks like it’s going to be through the roof. The team behind the project are passionate and authentic. Their goals are admirable and their sense of professionality is hard to come by. It’s a recipe for positive expansion, a real win for South African gamers and an entertaining event that stands out on the SA gaming calendar.”

We at the Orena are a team filled with a passion for gaming and the growth of South African e-Sports. With the communities support, we aim to assist the local e-Sports scene by providing the necessary means to expand interest locally, in what is a highly successful and growing market internationally.
