New Xbox will be at E3 next year

*NOT AN ACTUAL XBOX 720*

Let’s be honest – you all know how this goes.  Someone says something and the official powers that be decline to comment on the rumour.  In this case ‘someone’ is a “high-ranking” source at Crytek and the official powers declining to comment are both Crytek and Microsoft.

So what’s being said?  Well, according to VideoGamer, the Crytek source has said that the Xbox 360’s successor [Xbox 720?] will likely debut at E3 2012, with Timesplitters 4 being among the titles in development for the new machine.  The game is being built using the CryEngine 3,  and will apparently focus on branching paths, exploration and sandbox gameplay.

The insider did not – or could not – confirm the console’s specs, but did reveal that the Crysis studio is using DirectX 11 for the development.

The source expects Microsoft to unveil and subsequently launch its new machine ahead of Sony, though the studio is also investing resources in PlayStation 4 development.
