Bravado Gaming are the Mettlestate Samsung Galaxy CS:GO Champs

One of the biggest paydays in South African esports happened this past weekend in the Mettlestate Samsung Galaxy CS:GO Champs when Bravado Gaming walked off with the lion’s share of R1 million.

The top eight teams from the online qualifiers kicked the LAN battle off on Friday 5 May with match one featuring tournament favourites Bravado Gaming up against Ventus Pro. The 1-0 win by the Bravado team saw them kick off a winning streak that ultimately took them to the finals where they had to await their opponents.

The battle to face Bravado was ultimately a more unpredictable run. Energy eSports and Damage Control faced each other in the second round of the winner’s bracket, and it was a clinical performance by the Damage Control veterans that saw them beat Energy 16-5 to send them tumbling to the loser’s bracket.

Energy had a battle on to make it back to the grand final. On the way, they pushed passed Flipsid3 Tactics 2-0 to face Damage Control again but this time in the loser’s bracket final. However, this time it was Energy that came out swinging hardest and they took the best of three match 2-0 to secure another final against Bravado.

Bravado went into the best of five final with a one map advantage, meaning Energy needed to secure three maps while Bravado only needed to win two. And that’s exactly what the team in blue did with comprehensive wins on both Cache (16-5) and Overpass (16-9) to be crowned the first Mettlestate CS:GO Champions.

The final standings:

  1. Bravado Gaming [R350,000]
  2. Energy eSports [R160,000]
  3. Damage Control [R115,000]
  4. Flipsid3 Tactics South Africa [R95,000]
  5. Exdee Gaming [R80,000]
  6. XTC Gaming [R80,000]
  7. Pulse Gaming [R60,000]
  8. Ventus Gaming [R60,000]

Our congratulations to the Bravado team for another championship win. Further congratulations to all participating teams and the Mettlestate crew for bringing to life an entertaining weekend of local CS:GO action.
