It’s the new “event planning and event services destination” set up by a group of Cape Town based gamers who are clearly passionate about our constantly growing and evolving industry and community in South Africa.
The brainchild of Glenn Alexander – along with Ashley Oneill, Hylton Arendse, Zaida Kamish and Anthea Oneill – the organisation plans to offer gamers, industry bods and journalists a monthly social event which will include meals and an opportunity to meet and hear from a variety of important role-players in the South African gaming scene. While the idea is to roll the concept out around the country from next year, this is a unique opportunity for Capetonians to enjoy gaming events that have – up to now – been the reserve of those based in Johannesburg.
This Friday sees the first event from the 2upGamers and will feature guest speakers from Kalahari and Mweb and will be held at the Rygersdal Sports Club. We would suggest you sign up for the event pronto, as it’s only with support that events like this and more will continue to happen in Cape Town and South Africa.
Cape Town, South Africa – November 1, 2011 – 2upGamers, Cape Town’s brand spanking new “event planning” and “event services” destination for all local Capetonian gamers out there today announced that a new monthly gaming gathering will kick-off with their inaugural 2upGamers gathering taking place this coming Friday, November 4, 2011.
The time has finally arrived especially for the local gaming scene down here in Cape Town to finally be put on the “gaming map”. By gaming scene, 2upGamers is talking specifically console gaming (Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii), plus don’t forget their not so distant cousins, the PC gamers.
“We’re very excited as we step into a new era within the local gaming industry down here in Cape Town and hopefully early next year, we’ll be looking to spread our wings into the other provinces like the Eastern Cape, Kwazulu-Natal and beyond” said Glenn Alexander, one of the co-founders of 2upGamers. It is commonly known throughout the gaming scene within South Africa that all the major gaming events take place up in Gauteng for many years already and it will continue to happen due to a large percentage of the Distributors being based in Johannesburg. So this is one of the very reasons and existence of 2upGamers. It is now up to the gamers to stand up and be counted and introduce a new culture to the gaming scene. We’re getting out there and making exciting events happen in Cape Town by bringing the distributors to us, instead of sitting back on our couch playing games waiting for it to fall into your lap.
Alexander, together with Ashley Oneill, Hylton Arendse, Zaida Kamish and Anthea Oneill have combined their powers, skills, energy and fields of expertise to conjure up 2upGamers within a very limited amount of time as the window of opportunity is now. After witnessing a highly successful Battlefield 3 exclusive launch event at the MWEB Head offices in N1 City last week, plus the ever popular weekly CPTGamer get togethers, this all just cemented the need for the 2upGamers gatherings. The hunger seen from the Capetonian gamers will now start to be addressed.
2upGamers will take place every first Friday within the new month and will be kicking off this coming Friday, out in Rondebosch at the Sports Club. Gamers will be able to secure their seats via www.2upgamers.co.za who will then be treated to three guest speakers on the evening, ISP giant, MWEB – discussing local servers for Battlefield for PC, Gears of War 3 servers for Xbox 360 and some other top secret agenda points, plus Kalahari.com will be addressing online retail especially for the gamers and the 2upGamers to wrap up the “formal” proceedings. This will all be leading up to a surprise lineup for the remainder of the evening which will be unveiled on the night.
