We at Zombiegamer are always keen to get to know [eat actually] our fellow gamers, clans and gaming celebs. Unfortunately, the sight of one of us stumbling up to your front door appears to cause mass hysteria with way too much running and screaming. In an effort to keep people calm, we sent Undead Ed in search of some brains while disguised as a cuddly Panda Bear. It worked. We were able to get the chaps of SA gaming clan High 5 to answer some questions about themselves in what we hope to make a regular weekly feature about you – yes, you dear readers. Just remember the Panda is your friend.
I’d usually be forced to insert something nice to say round about now, but, well, the readers can see for themselves…
High 5 formed in 2007 and officially registered for AGASA on 11th April 2007 – which makes them the oldest Xbox clan in SA. The original clan was made up of “legendary players like Jut King, qedi ZA, paradox and Holden ZA”. Since their legendary days, only Holden ZA remains with dastrix550 ZA joining the clan in early 2008. In 2009 the two started with a major revamp of the clan, after losing 3 members to life. This is their story…
Who are you?
High 5: Let it rain alcohol from the sky!!
You may also know us as McLovin FC, We’ve Got The Bomb, Get Shat On, The Evil Poo Flingers or The Naked Pimp Squad, but essentially we are High 5.
We are your typical dysfunctional family, with members from all walks of life.
When and where did you form?
In 2007 we started receiving offers to join clans and partake in friendly matches against the other members in the Xbox community. We reached the conclusion that no other clan out there had the same ‘mindset’ as we did. That mindset being that we should play for fun and try stir up the community by being the team that would beat you but laugh all the way whilst doing it. Even when we did lose we still were laughing. We placed fourth in our 1st tournament at AGASA 2007 but we definitely stood out as the team having the most fun at the event.
Did you start on a specific platform and due to a specific game?
We are ultimately an Xbox clan, focussing mainly on Call of Duty and Gears, with some members dabbling in Fifa and Forza.
Are you still on the same platform or have you moved on?
Yes, we think as with other platforms the friendships we have build online will keep us an Xbox orientated clan, although we do have some members who enjoy other platforms.
Current clan game(s) of choice?
Modern Warfare 3, Gear and Fifa.
How many members now? Wanna waste time and list them maybe?
We currently have 11 active players.
OREO 308 ZA
Xx KBG xX
Other general history?
Table Mountain was given its name in 1503 by Antonio da Saldanha, a Portuguese admiral and explorer. He called it Taboa da caba (“table of the cape”). The original name given to the mountain by the first Khoi inhabitants was Hoeri ‘kwaggo (“sea mountain”).
Do you consider yourselves a competitive clan, or one in it more for “the shits and giggles”?
Both, we love the competitive side of gaming, but one should never let go of the fun factor in gaming. Being silly is one of the requirements of joining High 5, shit, Holden is one of the clan leaders, you will not find much sillier than him! [This is actually quite true. He is silly. Really – Undead Ed]
Won any tournaments you feel like bragging about?
Call of Duty 4 Champions (2007)
AGASA Gears of War 1: 4th (2007)
Call of Duty World At War: 2nd (xboxgaming.co.za Tournament, 2008)
AGASA Gears of War 2 (2009): 2nd, but Holden led Hos Hos to victory [sic]
Do Gaming Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 League (2010): Quarter Finals
GX Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 League (2010): Semi Finals
Xboxreel Demolition Trio: 1st (2011)
Finalist in the UGB tournament.
Are you guys actively recruiting players?
No , at this point we are going to concentrate on what we have as a squad and build from there. At the moment we are very much like a big family. We recently played in the Clan Connection tournament where we didn’t do as well as we liked. So we are going to change some things up with the squad we have and kick some tail in our next tournament.
[Undead Ed note: Clan Connection is a new venture started by Holden when he isn’t playing games or doing some studying. We hope to have some more information for you all in the future.]
How do you decide on who is right to join you?
1st comes personality, 2nd comes skill. Which both have high standards, you must be able to laugh and kick ass as mentioned earlier.
Clan you respect/
hate/want to be the most… (delete where not applicable)
Where to start? Sadly we have lost Tech 9 to BF3, but our relationship with them will always be special. Love you guys. Currently in CoD I would say XtaZ, Chaos Crew, Target Practice and Dead Men Walking. Would also like to mention the geriatrics from OAP.
What are your plans for the future?
We will keep on establishing High 5 as one of the premier Xbox clans in SA, also promoting console gaming and helping the community grow.
Boring stuff over…
If you weren’t a gaming clan you’d be…
…the South African Brady bunch?!?
You have a clan mate pinned down by enemy fire. On the other hand, there’s a case of cold beers (or other drink of choice. Or any vice of choice, but please elaborate) back in the HQ. Do you send the squad to a certain death to rescue your clan mate? Or chill at the bar and drink a toast to his “valour”?
…uuhhmm beer. (Come on, did you even notice what the full name of the clan is?)
Yes… The zombie apocalypse has happened. You’re all toast unless you stick together. Half the clan wants to keep moving and the other half wants to barricade themselves in. How would you decide on the best course of action?
Our decision is final, any deserters will be shot on the spot then teabag’ed vigorously.
Thanks for your time – we know it’s tough to put the controller down. Is there anything you would like to add before you go back to pwning n00bs?

If you’re keen to see the guys (and some of their friends) in action, head over to Holden’s Youtube channel.
Thanks to dastrix550 ZA and Holden ZA for their time. Two top guys, but Undead Ed was convinced their brains were a little too pickled for his tastes.
If you are keen to feature in this column in the future, please feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll think about – after you’ve sent us a sample of your braaaaaaiiiiinnnnsss.
