Sorry kids, no Vanquish for you. The best I heard the game described as was ‘Gears of War meets Halo with a twist’. Well it seems it is more Gears of War than Halo as it receives a ‘mature’ rating by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board for “Blood and gore, intense violence and strong language.”
Platinum Games’ Vanquish is a third-person shooter where players assume the role of a government agent who leads a special unit to infiltrate a space station in the near future. It wont just have players killing robots, but humanoid soldiers too, in “frenetic combat”. So while shooting robots is generally accepted, when human soldiers are shot, apparently there is “a brief spurt of blood”. Then when soldiers blow up, there is a “splatter of blood and dismembered body parts”.
The rating board also reveal that cutscenes sometimes depict intense instances of violence and a random character even “commits suicide with a gunshot to the head”.
Vanquish will be in stores in October and will be available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
