Another week proves there is always something happening in the South African gaming scene.

This past weekend saw the Trenchtown Gaming Tournament which featured Black Ops 2 and FIFA 14. Our full report is available here.

South African eSports Association

The new organisation which appears to be aligning itself as an MSSA competitor will be holding its votes for committee members online this Friday (25 October) from 8pm. The voting will be hosted live from the MWEB Gamezone offices and beamed live “worldwide to Skype, Google+ and Twitch for everyone to have their say on how we blast gaming in SA into the future.” [Source]

Legends 2up Cup

Monday night was the weekly dose of Legends FIFA action. Eleven players got their virtual boots on and battled it out in two groups and on to a knockout. Lee – who ended second at Trenchtown the day before – proved the strongest on the day and beat Shane 2-0 in the final.

MSSA School eSports

Roedean School was the host for this past weekend’s SA School eSports Championships featuring DotA and CounterStrike 1.6.

ROCCAT to sponsor the Protea eSports Team

ROCCAT has become a sponsor of the Protea eSports Team. The partnership with the MSSA also planning to “deliver very much more to the gamers in terms of the role-out of Regional Championships as well as to the hosting of test matches on South African soil.”

The press release did not go into any details about the exact nature of the sponsorship, or what the partnership will bring to South African gamers.

Upcoming Events

  • 2upGamers Community is still apparently scheduled for tomorrow night (Friday, 25 October), but no details have been announced yet.
  • You have until tomorrow to sign up for the Final Blast Tournament.
  • We have a suspicion that the Limpopo Provincial Championships are not happening…
  • The EFL is kicking off this Sunday (27 October). At the time of writing there was one spot still available in this 20 man league.
  • The H.I.V.E. is running a Halloween special on 31 October and 1 November. Pay just R30 an hour at the venue in Monte Casino, and as a bonus, if you “come dressed for the occasion” you will “get ONE free hour with first purchase”.
  • You can still register for the MWEB Gamezone ‘Clash of Titles’ event. Battlefield 4 goes head-to-head with Call of Duty Ghosts. The event is scheduled for 8 November, and registration closes on 4 November.
  • The Chasing Inspiration LAN – a charity LAN – kicks off on 8 November. More here.
