A few SA gaming events came and went the past few weeks, and while we weren’t always able to attend and cover them at the time, there’s absolutely no reason not to cover them now that we’re aware of them.

This past weekend saw MainGaming host their Black Ops 2 tournament at Tyger Valley.  Moving away from their traditional free-for-all competition, they ran a 3v3 event which featured four teams battling it out on Hardpoint as a best of three in a round robin phase.  The top two teams then faced each other in a best of five based on Hardpoint and SnD.  In the end team F4D3 grabbed the win and the R1000 winner’s cheque for their efforts.

The A.I. Fest REBORN was held in Aspen Hills, Gauteng.  We couldn’t attend the 18 May event which featured a 3v3 League of Legends tournament, table top gaming and cosplay, among other things.  If you want to see what went down, head over to their Facebook Album.

A week ago, the FIFA 13 2up Cup moved in to Stellenbosch and witnessed a pretty decent turnout by all accounts.  In fact, the pictures confirm this.  The winner on the night was Zano Coetzee who came back from a 5-1 deficit to win 6-5.  The tournament (which counts towards points on the Mweb Ladders) hit Games On in Rondebosch last night, and the winner was 2up Cup first timer Fagmie Towfie who beat Fraansman 4-0 in the deciding final game of a double elimination tournament after Fraansman had won 1-0 from the loser’s bracket.  You can check out some pictures from the Rondebosch event here.

The winners from the last month’s 2up Cup affiliated matches are:

  • Week 11 – FIFA Champs – David Wattoula
  • Week 12 – Aandklas Stellenbosch – Zano Coetzee
  • Week 13 – GamesOn Lounge Rondebosch – Fagmie Towfie [Debut 2up Cup]
  • Week 14 – Trenchtown – Observatory – Monday 27th May [Current champ Mubeen]

Keep your diary open for a few upcoming events in the next few weeks, including the Geek Pride Day event on 25 May in Bellville, Cape Town and the Trenchtown Gaming Tournament on 1 June which will feature a FIFA 13 tournament and a 2v2 Black Ops 2 SnD tournament.  To be fair, there is loads more happening in the next two weeks, so we’ll rather just direct you to our calendar for more.
