As we see ourselves getting 2019 into full swing, we hope to bring you more from the local gaming scene, as you get to know your fellow gamers, teams and more.

We kick things off with Halo player NicmeisteR who continues to keep the community alive with LAN events and community tournaments. He has also assisted Halo South Africa with their website and streams the game regularly, proving his passion truly is all things Halo.

Go ahead and introduce yourself. Don’t be shy.

Hello everyone, I am Nicolaas “NicmeisteR” Nel.

I am obsessed with the Halo franchise and I have been playing it for the past decade, I’m also a total weeb and I love watching anime when I’m not gaming. My profession is being a Software Developer, so my life consists of writing code and finding more ways to connect the community.

I’m also a YouTuber, Streamer, designer and competitive Halo Player.

What’s your platform of choice? Why?

Xbox, due to the Xbox Game Pass that gives me 200+ games, including all launch exclusives for R160 but more games added daily, I also love being able to play with friends split screen, to chill in/on my bed and game and also because it’s the home of the best game ever (Halo). I’m also a developer so I dislike having games take space/resources from my PC.

Can you remember the first time you ‘gamed’?

My memory is out of whack so I won’t be able to say which exact game it was, but it was most likely Mario or Looney Toons.

How long have you been gaming?

Since the day I could touch a controller. Round about age two.

When do you think you’ll stop gaming?

Never, unless I am physically incapable.

Are you a serious gamer? Or do you enjoy a laugh?

I’m a super competitive player, so I can get quite serious at times but I also enjoy a good laugh. In all honesty it depends what game I’m playing at the time.

Singleplayer or multiplayer?

Multiplayer, due to my overly competitive attitude you will always find me grinding towards a self-improving goal, or those juicy Xbox Achievements.

Is playing online important to you?

It’s very important to me because it makes playing with friends and communicating with them a lot easier due to distance and circumstances.

Favourite game currently?

Halo, all of them. Doesn’t matter which one, all of them are my favourite.

Are you a member of a clan? Who are they and why?

Yes, it’s me and all my smurf accounts, but other than that I do have a competitive Halo team called Ethereal.

How long have you been streaming?

I started streaming last year but I was still on LTE so I couldn’t do it as often as I wanted. My solution was to get a solid 100mbps fibre line. I started streaming more often around September but I had issues streaming directly from my console and on Black Friday I invested in a Elgato HD60S and I started taking my streaming a lot more seriously. This year I’m doing a stream every day unless something comes up.

What sort of setup do you have for streaming?

My current setup consists of: Elgato HD60S, Xbox One X, Streamlabs OBS, Microsoft Lifecam 3000, Astro A50s and a Dell SE2417HG 24″ Full HD Gaming Monitor.

Which games do you stream?

I mostly stream Halo 5/MCC but I also switch it up to some adventure games like the Fable series or some indie games. I play anything – FPS/Racing/Fighting/Adventure/Indie. I love achievement hunting so I jump to different titles to bump up that Gamerscore.

Do you have a stream schedule?

I do indeed – it changes on a weekly basis.

What’s the most embarrassing or worst game you’ve ever bought or received as a gift?

I can’t recall any embarrassing games but I think everyone will find the fact that I’ve played quite a bit of Yandere Simulator embarrassing.

If you were a game designer, describe your ultimate game design.

There was a game I started design on last year. My idea for it is a fully white map, characters in colour, and lots of blood to go on the white map. But there’s a twist. One team is on the ground, the other on the roof.

Do you have any hobbies outside of gaming? What?

Programming, I love making side projects like websites, stats trackers, and applications for Xbox players to utilize. I also enjoy creating YouTube videos and designing logos.

You’re stranded on a desert island and a genie grants you five items. Name them:

A game:Halo MCC (or Infinite – unreleased currently)
A CD:Technically a CD can be another game so I’ll go with Halo 5, but on a serious note a CD would be Monstercat (due to variety of music, would’ve taken Linkin Park).
A movie or TV series:A tough choice but Darling in The Franxx (Yes I am a total Weebo)
An organic life form:A Cat, unless humans count. But most likely a Black Cat. [Humans do in fact count. Quite well in fact. Probably because all their fingers work or they have braaaaiiiinnnnsss. Welcome to 2019 everybody. I will find my own way out… – Undead Ed]
Something edible or drinkable:Infinite supply of Redbull

The zombie apocalypse has happened. You’re facing down a ravenous zombie horde (which may or may not include members of ZG in bikinis). What weapon do you grab?

My trusty Mjolnir suit.

In the aforementioned zombie apocalypse, you humans are all toast. Become a turncoat and assist the superior zombies or stay with the soon to be wiped out human resistance?

Does stagnating and choosing both sides count? I’ll help the zombies wipe all of humanity as long as they leave me. [The only survivor in a zombie apocalypse? You may prove very popular with starving undead. – Undead Ed]

Thanks for taking the time to answer our silly questions. What game are you off to play now?

Halo 5 to try and reach that max rank.
