We’re an impulsive lot here at Zombiegamer. We see a brain, we go for the brain. OK, maybe that’s more instinct but we needed some sort of witty opening gambit for this weekend’s Profiled feature, and that is the best we could come up with. Yes, we’re sad like that.
Anyway, in case that opening paragraph is a little lost on you, Impulsive Red are an team created by such an act and we wanted to find out more. They were – thankfully – happy to oblige.
Hello. Introduce yourself to the readers. Go on.
We are Impulsive Red, an esports organization focusing on helping players come together to form a team and evidently a family and grow together to compete with the top tier teams in SA.
When did the organisation form?
We formed in March of 2018 and have been together for 9 months.
What is your platform (or platforms) of choice?
Predominantly on PS4, but we are open to starting an Xbox team for Call of Duty, Fortnite, FIFA, etc., as well as PC teams for CS:GO, PUBG, Dot, etc.
What games does the organisation enjoy?
Call of Duty.
How was the organisation name chosen?
Jesse Smith and his best friend Tristan wanted to start their team but couldn’t come up with a name until Jesse asked Tristan what’s his favourite colour, and they both said red. Tristan’s response was “well that was impulsive lol” and there we go. ?
Who are the leaders of the organisation and what is the organisational structure like?
The founder and co-founder is Jesse “Moefins” Smith and Tristan “YoDo_Tristan” Nelson.
We have an Alpha COD team where Jason “Fade” Gruskin is the captain and on the Bravo COD Team it’s Jesse “Moefins” Smith.
We also have a Fornite team where a Nick Brooks is the captain.
How many members do you have? Keen to give out their names, credit card details and ID numbers?
Alright, only names will do.
There are currently 13 players in our team:
- Alpha COD team: Jason “Fade” Gruskin | Michael “Chuckles” Gruskin | Alessandro “Rogue” Leoni | Calvin “Carra” Armstrong | Matthew “Orbital” Cox
- Bravo COD Team: Jesse “Moefins” Smith | Tristan “Tristan” Nelson | Raynardt “Vinkster” Van Rensburg | Brandon “Currezs” Rademeyer | Garth “WannieG” Wanza | Tahier “Tbad” Smith
- Fortnite Team: JT Brophy | Nick Brooks
How often do you play together?
Four hours a night – Monday to Thursday (weekends are iffy).
Do you consider yourselves competitive, or an organisation in it for “the shits and giggles”?
Definitely competitive.
Has the organisation participated in many tournaments? Which? Won any?
We are currently competing in the ACGL Wager Ladders and have one four 2v2 sacodbattles tournaments.
Is attending LANs important to the organisation and its members?
The more LANs the better!
Are you guys actively recruiting for new players? If so, how should a potential member contact you and how do you decide on who is right to join you?
At the moment we are full, if a player wants to trial for us they just need to contact us on twitter (@impulsivered) or Instagram (@impulsive_red).
What are you hoping to achieve in the future as an organisation?
The goal and dream is to be able to form a team that stays together and forms an unbreakable bond, and to be one of the best and most recognized teams in SA. We would also like to acquire the big sponsors like Scuf, Astro, KontrolFreeks, etc.
Which opposing organisations do you most respect?
Elite Gaming Bravo! Really nice guys to play against!
We respect teams that start from nothing and work their way to the top.
In regards to professional – or competitive gaming (or even gaming in general) – what does Impulsive Red think needs to be done to raise the profile of South African gaming?
We need to create more awareness around esports in SA. Many people only learn about esports after we talk and run our mouths about it. LANs play a role but only if we get people there.
Some fun stuff:
If you weren’t a gaming team you’d be…
Just gamers.
War movie that best describes Impulsive Red?
Gridiron Gang.
If you guys had a music soundtrack for going to war, what would it be?
Eminem – Til I Collapse.
Thanks for your time – is there anything you would like to add before you head off?
We’d like to thank you for this opportunity. We are constantly thriving on creating awareness around the team and the community. We participate in charity runs as a team as well and would like to just shout out “The Green Line UP” as well as our current sponsors Hubbit and Pixel Customs.
