Games

Don’t hold your breath for the next Gears of War on the Xbox One… Black Tusk is only one week into development of the game. Phil Spencer said via Twitter: “Leadership team has been involved for a month but studio has only been on Gears for a week.”

Additional content for Titanfall is planned post launch. While no details were given, EA said the content will “evolve over time as we see how the playerbase evolves through the year.” EA have also promised that they have learnt from the Battlefield 4 launch and won’t “experience the same problems again.” [More on Eurogamer]

Rumour has it that the GTA V PC pre-orders will open tomorrow (Friday 31 January) according to GameReactor. Rockstar has not officially replied as yet.

It does not appear that Assassin’s Creed has plans to end. The current (Assassin’s Creed IV) “storyline has an ending, but because all of history is open to us we see the universe as a Doctor Who type thing. There are so many possibilities we don’t want to definitively end the universe, but we can have storylines that have endings.” [More on Edge]

Hardware

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has said that a Wii U “price reduction as a way to defuse the situation is not an option.” The situation being referred to is slow Wii U sales, which has meant poor financial results for the firm. [More on CVG]

A Wii U update expected in early summer [Northern Hemisphere] will introduce a ‘fast start-up’ menu to enable instant game access.

Industry

Beta invites for PlayStation Now are being sent out. Sadly, the closed beta is restricted to North America only. [More on IGN]

Microsoft’s SkyDrive is now known as OneDrive, following a legal battle with BSkyB. [More on CVG]

Sony Santa Monica is expanding and moving. In fact they are moving out of Santa Monica. The developers new office is around “four or five times the size” of the current office and will be in the Playa Vista neighbourhood down near Los Angeles airport. [More on Eurogamer]

Nintendo has reported a decline in revenue and profit between April and December 2013. In reaction to this senior board members will be taking a cut in salary of almost 50%.

Funcom has been charged with breaching the Securities Trading Act. The company revealed false or misleading financial information regarding the game The Secret World from the period of August 2011 until the launch of the game in July 2012, and the two months following the launch.
