Deus Ex designer clarifies on ‘multiple difficulty levels’

Deus Ex: Human Revolution designer, Frank Lapikas has given clarification on the “difficulty scaling” issue that fans seem to be unclear on over at the game’s official forums.

When asked about the “difficulty scaling,” Lapikas replied that the design team are indeed working on 3 difficulty levels, “casual, normal and Deus Ex.”

Lapikas acknowledged that gamers “are conscious that not everybody wants the same things out of their games,” saying some play for the challenge, others for the narrative. So they wanted players to be able to “enjoy the game, regardless of their proficiency level.”

The Deus Ex designer explained that with the ‘Deus Ex’ level comes from reading the forums, and some people were worried that Eidos would “dumb down the game and make it too easy so that combat would prevail and overshadow the stealth aspect because players wouldn’t die with just a few bullets, especially with the introduction of health regen,” and thus the Deus Ex level has been tweaked for these gamers.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution (previously Deus Ex 3) will be the third game in the first-person, role-playing game Deus Ex series, and a prequel to the original game and will be available in 2011.
