According to a report on The Verge, Microsoft is working on a 7-inch gaming tablet called Xbox Surface.
The Verge claims to have been informed by “multiple sources” that the secret project will “likely” include a custom ARM processor and high-bandwidth RAM designed specifically for gaming tasks.
The Xbox Surface will not run a full version of Windows, according to the report, but will instead run a custom Windows kernel. It is “likely” being made using the secret hardware production process Microsoft uses for its Surface devices and not via the same manufacturers as their gaming consoles (Foxconn or Pegatron). The gaming tablet is also expected to arrive ahead of the next Xbox console.
Microsoft have also apparently “locked down” several Xbox-buildings at its Silicon Valley offices to protect their top secret projects from making it to the outside world.
